Key
Points:
- On
July 12th, Israel suffered an unprovoked attack
inside Israeli sovereign territory by Hizballah terrorists.
They killed eight soldiers, kidnapped two and began firing
rockets into Israel .
- Hizballah
is a terrorist organisation, which holds cabinet posts in the
Lebanese Government, and is a proxy army of Iran .
- Six
years ago, in May 2000,
in
compliance with UN
Resolution 425, Israel withdrew from southern Lebanon with
no intention of returning. Nevertheless, Lebanon has allowed
terrorists to hide behind the Lebanese population, and to
build a vast terrorist infrastructure.
- UN
Security Council Resolution 1559
demands of Lebanon to disarm and dismantle Hizballah, and
deploy their army along the border with Israel .
- When
they carried out the attack on Israel, Hizballah had around
13,000 missiles. More than 3500 have so far been fired
at Israeli civilian population with the sole purpose of
killing innocent civilians.
- Israel,
as any other government, has the duty and the right to defend
its citizens, and is acting proportionally against a threat of
great magnitude. Israel targets positions that relate to
Hizballah and does not wish to hurt civilians.
- The
main aims of the IDF operation are:-
-
The return of the kidnapped servicemen, Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad
Regev.
-
To diminish the capabilities of the terrorist group Hizballah.
Thus preventing them from attacking Israel and her citizens,
whenever it is viewed convenient by their Iranian and Syrian
masters.
-
To ensure that the Lebanese government fulfil their commitment to
disarm and dismantle Hizballah, and deploy heir army along the
border with Israel . This is for the benefit of Lebanon ,
for the stability of the region, and in full implementation of
UNSCR 1559.
