Key Points: 

  1. On July 12th, Israel suffered an unprovoked attack inside Israeli sovereign territory by Hizballah terrorists.  They killed eight soldiers, kidnapped two and began firing rockets into Israel .
  1. Hizballah is a terrorist organisation, which holds cabinet posts in the Lebanese Government, and is a proxy army of Iran .
  1. Six years ago, in May 2000, in compliance with UN Resolution 425, Israel withdrew from southern Lebanon with no intention of returning. Nevertheless, Lebanon has allowed terrorists to hide behind the Lebanese population, and to build a vast terrorist infrastructure.
  1. UN Security Council Resolution 1559 demands of Lebanon to disarm and dismantle Hizballah, and deploy their army along the border with Israel .
  1. When they carried out the attack on Israel, Hizballah had around 13,000 missiles.  More than 3500 have so far been fired at Israeli civilian population with the sole purpose of killing innocent civilians.
  1. Israel, as any other government, has the duty and the right to defend its citizens, and is acting proportionally against a threat of great magnitude. Israel targets positions that relate to Hizballah and does not wish to hurt civilians.
  1. The main aims of the IDF operation are:-

- The return of the kidnapped servicemen, Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev.

 

- To diminish the capabilities of the terrorist group Hizballah.  Thus preventing them from attacking Israel and her citizens, whenever it is viewed convenient by their Iranian and Syrian masters.

 

- To ensure that the Lebanese government fulfil their commitment to disarm and dismantle Hizballah, and deploy heir army along the border with Israel .  This is for the benefit of Lebanon , for the stability of the region, and in full implementation of UNSCR 1559.
