Walking with Jesus
by Michael Smith

"...be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear"
(1 Peter 3:15)

From the Back Cover
Michael Smith has been involved in Christian ministry for forty years mainly in South London, especially amongst the sick and needy, those with mental problems, and with those who are elderly and lonely.  This book will help build up the faith of many at a time of much doubt and unbelief, and goes below the surface of Scripture to explain the uniqueness of Jesus Christ and the meaning behind major events in His life such as His virgin birth, His resurrection, and His ascension, together with our response to them.

Preface
It was about eight o'clock one Tuesday evening in August 1955 that the Lord Jesus met me, saved my soul and changed my life for ever.  I was twenty-one, and as my sins were forgiven and washed away, it felt as if a heavy load had fallen from my shoulders, and I was about two stones lighter in weight.

Soon after, a mature Christian advised me above all to stay close to Jesus and His work on the cross, and when I shared my Christian beliefs with others to always come back to Calvary.  Down the years his advice has proved to be wise, and therefore the aim in the following pages is to make Jesus and His death on the cross central.  This may seem rather basic but it is all too easy to become side tracked in other directions and to leave Jesus out.  our relationship with Jesus is the most precious part of our Christian life, and if we drift away from Him we may continue to go through the motions, but in reality there is nothing of real value left.  As Jesus said, "apart from Me you can do nothing."

To give an example; it is easy to be so busy doing God's work in our Christian fellowship, that we have little time left to read God's Word or be with Jesus Himself, in which case we are just too busy doing more than God asks us to.  Jesus was busy but He always made time to be in prayer with God His Father by getting up early or spending the night in prayer.  Unless we keep close to Jesus every day we will soon drift away from Him into the ways of the world and the flesh.

The following pages try to put the spotlight where it always belongs, on the Lord Jesus Himself.  Most people these days are busy, and so the chapters are deliberately not too long or erudite, while containing enough to interest those who want to renew their faith or remind themselves of basic scriptural truths.  They will also be helpful to those with doubts, and those who are still enquiring into Christian things.
