The 4-6-0 wheel arrangement bacame the most common for passenger and mixed traffic work in Britain,
yet it fell to the small Highland Railway in Scotland to introduce the first design of this type.
Its designer, David Jones, was strongly influenced by a Scottish locomotive design for Indian Railways.
