Ewan Lamont from Forth Wines presented the following Spanish Wines
White
Dona Victorina, Verdejo-Sauvignon Blanc, La Mancha,
2009
Unoaked white wine made from 50% Verdejo and 50% Sauvignon, vinified
at low temperatures to maximise freshness. Deliciously dry and zesty
with delicate tropical fruit aromas and crisp citrus flavours. Ideal
with all types of seafood
Albariño, Valdamor, Riax Baixas, 2009
Although produced on quite a large scale, a terrific amount of TLC goes
into the production of this wine. The grapes are picked by hand and
vinified by separate vineyard plots to reflect the individual expression
of each plot. The wine is left on lees for 8 months in stainless steel
tanks before bottling. The result is a rich, complex wine with hints
of apple and ripe fruits. In 2008, this wine was voted the best Spanish
white wine sold in the UK over £10, the second time this wine
has won this accolade.
Beronia, Rioja, Blanco Barrel Fermented, 2007
The only similarity with the Beronia Blanco is that both are made from
100% Viura. This wine undergoes fermentation in American oak barrels
for 5 months, the result is a full-bodied wine with delicious vanilla
and mature fruit characters and a creamy finish.
Red
Valcorso, Yecla, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2009
Redcurrant and cherries dominate the nose and palate. Hints of menthol
are present in the finish with fine well integrated tannins.
Beronia, Rioja, Crianza, 2007
Made from 82% Tempranillo, 14% Gamacha and 4% Mazuelo. The wine is aged
12 months in barrel and 12 months in bottle prior to release. Aromas
of vanilla, raspberry and cherry dominate the bouquet. The palate is
fresh and fruity with a rich and powerful finish.
Beronia, Rioja, Reserva, 2005
Made from 89% Tempranillo, 6% Mazuelo and 5% Graciano. The wine undergoes
18 months ageing in barrel and a further 2 years in bottle before release.
There are hints of chocolate, toasted bread and spice on the nose and
a smooth, gentle finish.
M.O. Olivara, Tinto de Toro, Crianza, Marqués
de Olivara, 2006
Well-balanced with a full, fruity blackberry nose, notes of violet and
well-integrated oak. Good tannin structure, concentrated but elegant
- pairs well with red meats and cheeses.
Zeta, Priorat, Bodegas España Auténtica,
2006
A blend of Gamacha, Cariflena and Cabemet Sauvignon. Intense aromas
of ripe fruit with roasted spice, rich and full in the mouth with a
long finish. Enjoy with meats and cheeses.
