"Faith manages."
- Delenn

The Minbari Ambassador to Babylon 5, and a former member of the Grey Council.

Delenn was raised as a member of the religious caste. When she was a young child she was visiting the City with her parents and become separated from them. She found an old temple - inside she felt safe - so she waited for them to find her. She fell asleep for some time and when she awoke she saw the vision of a figure (Valen?) who told her that her parents would come if she believed. Shortly after, they did and ever since then she has believed that 'faith manages'.

Through the years she worked her way up to a member of the Grey Council - prior to that she was mentored by Dukhat himself. Shortly after joining, first contact with the Human race went horribly wrong when the warrior caste approached the Humans with gunports open. The Human fleet open fired and in the crossfire Dukhat was killed. Delenn was so distraught that her deciding vote caused the Earth-Minbari war - something which she has only recently come to terms with. She was present also at the Battle of the Line and chose Sinclair for examination before the final assault on Earth. She called for the war to end when she discovered that he - and others - possessed Minbari souls. Sinclair's mind was wiped of the events and Delenn offered to become Ambassador to Babylon 5 to keep an eye on Sinclair and to find out if humans were the race Valen had mentioned long ago that they had to work with against the Shadows.

In December 2258 Delenn insolated herself from the Grey Council and received a Triluminary which formed part of the Chrysalis she entered in the belief she was fulfilling prophecy. She emerged as half human, half minbari and received mixed reactions almost instantaneously. In early 2259, she was removed from the Grey Council for her actions and replaced with Neroon - a warrior caste member. Many Humans saw her actions as an insult - taking the appearance of a Human with no right to. Towards the end of 2258, a visitor called Sebastian came to see her on behalf of the Vorlons. He subjected her to torture and humiliation but she passed the test when she said she was willing to die for another, alone and unremembered. As a result, she began to believe in herself and the path she was taking again.

As the Shadows increased their influence in underhand ways, there came a point where she, following Valen's prophecy, broke the Grey Council and led about half of them away to Babylon 5 to join the fight against the Shadows. She returned just in time to stop the Earthforce president's forces taking Babylon 5 for themselves during the Earth Civil War.

After Sinclair took Babylon 4 back into the past, she was named as the new Entil'zha, which distressed many of the Minbari, Neroon included. While Neroon swears to stop her becoming Entil'zha, Marcus challenges him to combat to the death, and he sees the light after Marcus calls out to Valen. Delenn later shared the leadership of the Anla'shok with the Captain of Babylon 5, John Sheridan.

As her time on B5 passed, she and Sheridan grew closer together eventually becoming partners. When Sheridan went to Z'ha'dum, she fasted and swore to join his side in death until Franklin showed her a diary message from Sheridan about her. She was preparing the rangers for an attack on Z'ha'dum when he returned in early 2261. Later that year she was called back to Minbar to explain her reasons for taking a Human mate, and it was then found that she was a descendent of Valen (Dukhat had been trying to tell her when he was killed) thus proving that she wasn't pure Minbari, since Valen was 'Minbari not born of Minbari', and hence that her children wouldn't be pure Minbari either way.

At the end of that year, Delenn and Sheridan married and set up an Interstellar Alliance that includes all the major races and many of the Ex-League World races.
