..you're such a strange girl, I think you come from another world.. - The Cure

Hmm.. so where do I start? University seems about the best place I guess... I went to the University of Hertfordshire, UK in September 1993. One of the first things I remember doing when I got there was sitting on the bed in my new room finding it very difficult to believe that I actually made it that far. *grin*

After that I was very quickly initiated in University, my first nights being spent down the student bar, much the same as any student I have come to know. Shortly after getting bored of the bar every night (and the fact that money doesn't grow on trees) made me head for the University's Computer Centre.

My first discovery was IRC, and it was there that I set up #goth, with the aid of a program I wrote and called SisterRay. She was my first real attempt at any decent programming. (I didn't count my lectures because I hated the language - ADA). Since then I have come a long way, writing web pages, 'surfing' (I hate that word) the WWW, and even coding mud areas.

It wasn't until the summer holidays in 1994 that I really discovered Mudding. A friend from IRC gave me the address for Stick in the Mud and I was hooked within a week. I've played many muds now and Stick is still my favourite. I've met the nicest people there and the atmosphere beats that of any other muds (player-kill or not). I'm an Immortal (Level 53) on Stick, and a builder on Dark City. I'm also an Implementor on Dark Mist & on God Wars: The Apocalypse.

During Easter last year (April 1998) I found myself a new boyfriend and its kind of strangenhow we met - we both played the same mud about 2 years ago but we didn't know each other then - then we both went to the same two meets and it went from there really. So we met because of the net but not on it... (He asked me to put in a link to his webpage so I'd better :)

Leave your mind and come to me...

I finished University in June 1998 and came out with a 2:2 in Astrophysics and a HND in computing and I'd ideally like to work on the internet but am still looking for that ideal job.

Hobbies & Interests

I have always been interested in Astronomy, especially the stars and galaxies. It was this reason that brought me to this University to study an BSc (Honours) degree in Astrophysics. Although I've finished the degree now (awarded a 2:2), I came back to complete a HND in Multimedia Studies. As far as interests go, I love anything gothic and vampiric and I'm a big fan of music in this genre (as well as dancing to trance music). I also have an interest in mythology (sumerian, babylonian & scandinavian) and ancient Egyptian history. Hobbies include reading, creative writing, web page authoring, drawing, roleplaying, and many other things which I always seem to find the time for.

Favourite bands include Cradle of Filth, Skinny Puppy & Anathema. I'm also a big fan of Death and Black Metal (ie Hecate Enthroned, Opeth, Emperor.)

The meanings behind my many names..

In essence, the four names below come to me as personalities. Facets of myself, under different skies...

Peri is the quester for knowledge. Mircalla is the sinister and yet silly me. Fabienne is the hopeless romantic and Charlotte the caring...

PERI HARPER

Contrary to popular belief, I didn't get the name Peri from Dr Who. I believed I had come up with this one myself. She was originally thought up over a few weeks as a malkavian character for Tabletop vampire, and became my LARP character for the next 2 years, my name on Mono BBS, and much, much more...

MIRCALLA MORDENHEIM

Mircalla is a vampire character from a song by 'Two Witches', a book by Sheridan Le Fanu, and a hammer horror flick. I chose this one when I went through my 'being vampy' phase of life. The surname came from a Ravenloft (AD&D) book when I decided I needed an equally sinister surname. It's also my nickname on alt.stupidity.

FABIENNE

My first name on IRC, (after moonchild) purely because I love the band 'The Mission'.

CHARLOTTE

When I heard that the Cure's song 'Charlotte Sometimes' had been inspired by a book of the same name, I just had to read it. So I searched for it, I found it and I read it. In short, it's the tale of a girl who sometimes trades places with a girl in the past. The girl from the past eventually dies of TB (I believe) and I found it to be a very moving story at the time I read it..
