Beginning commands

Autoexit

This displays your exits along with the description screen for the room you enter.

Autogold

This lets you automatically take any gold the mob has after you've killed it.

Autoloot

This command will let you automatically pick up any equipment from the mobs that you kill without you having to type, for example 'get all corpse' or 'get sword corpse'.

Autosac

With this command on you automatically sacrifice the body after you beat it to death. (or stab it depending on your preference).

Compare

You know the situation (or maybe you don't). You've just found a lovely looking piece of armor and are wondering whether to wear it instead of that scale mail jerkin you've being wearing for ages. This is where this useful command pops up and says type compare armor. If it says 'A lovely looking piece of armor looks better than a scale mail jerkin' then what it means usually is that it is better armor than what you already are wearing.

There are times when the compare command doesn't tell you the whole truth. Some objects have hidden bonuses like extra damage. The compare will not work on these bonuses and so may say that a non-magic something is better than a magic something of a slightly lower level, whether its true or not.

Consider

When you want to know if you are able to beat up a mob or not its always a good idea to type consider {mob}. eg consider fido. If it says for example 'Death will thank you for your gift.' it is probably NOT a good idea to try and kill it.

Noloot

If you dont want to worry about people pinching your equipment from your dead corpse then you will need to have this command on. With noloot the only person that can take your equipment from your corpse will be you. Also noone will be able to pick up your corpse and wander off with it.

Nosummon

This command will stop people summoning you to places you dont want to go.

Outfit

This command will kit you out with some equipment adequate for a starting character.

Shortpit

When you look into the pit by the altar and try to get objects from it you may find that it says 'you are not powerful enough to use it'. This is because the object is too high a level for you. With shortpit on you will only see the objects you can use in the pit and those that are one or two levels higher than you.

Wimpy

One of the first things to do in my opinion. The value you set your wimpy to will determine how long you will fight before you flee. For example if you set it to 8 then you will attempt to flee when you have 8 hit points left.

Training and Practising

When you gain levels you will find that you get practices and trains which you spend on getting better at spells and skills. The practices are for your skills and spells and the trains are for your stats (ie. str wis etc..).

Usually levels 1-5 practice in the rooms at the mud school and 6 onwards practice in the guild that goes with their class and train with the sailor in the old warehouse located in the alley in the south-eastern end of Midgaard.

It is best if you train wisdom first (this gives you more pracs), and then move onto constitution (giving you more hit points per level). I would suggest intelligence after that (to give you a higher percentage when you practice).

More useful commands

The who command will let you see who else is logged into Stick in the Mud (unless they are invisible) and you can also use the help command and commands to see what other things you can do.

Something we all need now and again

One minute you're wandering around having the time of your life and the next minute you've reached the top of that tower and a dragon has gone boo and you've gone *splat*. Yup that's when you know you need a Corpse Retrieval. (CR for short). The easiest thing to say here is don't panic but would you tell a 6ft warrior with 25 str and a face like a wet weekend to cheer up? No me neither.

So you've lost some equipment that took you ages to get. So you don't think you'd be able to get it again? Don't worry. Ask for a CR.

State exactly where and what killed you and almost always people will jump to your aid.

Only ask an immortal (level 51+) for a corpse retrieval if there is no-one on that can recover the corpse for you.

When the retriever asks you if you are ready then make sure you are away from the pit and you are summonable (type nosum until it says you are summonable). When you are summoned then collect all your stuff (get all corpse) and recall before the monster repops and decides to try eating you a second time.

Remember: Always thank the person that helped you!

Whats going on. I didn't want that, i wanted the other one..

Imagine looking in the donation pit...

The donation pit contains:

     brass leggings
     a short sword
     (Glowing) a steel broad sword
Ok.. so you wanted that broad sword, you type 'get sword' but it wont let you get it from the pit and it says something like 'You get a short sword from the pit'. You don't have to get every sword from the pit to overcome this. You can type 'get 2.sword' and you should be rewarded with 'You get a steel broad sword from the pit'. Easy as pot pie :)

It says he doesn't sell that!

Ok you've gone in the shop, typed list and you know what you want to buy but it says you can't have it...

<999hp 123m 456mv>list

[Lv Price] Item
[ 3 100] a small wooden shield.
[10 1000] a large metal shield.
[10 500] a pair of chain mail sleeves.
[5 250] a buckler shield

Its the same again you want the buckler and you type 'buy shield'. Or do you? This time its the 'buy 3.shield' approach.

What about that mob I was fighting? Now there are 3 in the same room

Presuming the mob don't all attack you at once when you attack one of them, this is again a useful command.

Use the commands to look at the mobs one by one. For example, look 2.ensigh, look 3.ensigh etc.. then when you find the one you were attacking before, you can use 'kill whatevernumber.ensigh'.

Titles and speaking with colours

Most computers are able to handle a wonderful command called 'highlight'. This brings you a whole new world of colours! You'll be able to see what channel people are talking on just by the colours and you'll also be able see who is hitting who in fights!

What else can you do with colours?

You can put colours in your title, in your character description almost anywhere in fact. The process is fairly difficult to master but once you understand it you'll remember it easily.

Changing the colours you already have

You can get a full list of the available colours and what you can do with the colours by typing help highlight internal.

Giving yourself a coloured title etc.

If for example you wanted to have a yellow word in your title this is how you would do it...

1. Find a channel that has yellow as its color. (ie. joke)
2. If you want to be Billy the Banana for example you would type:

title the \ch_jokBanana. The 'ch_' part says channels (you always use the first 3 letters of the color parts involved) and the 'jok' is for joke.
