Face Paints

Only the best water-based facepaints and products are used by Doodles, conforming to strict EEC/USA regulations and manufactured by Grimas, Kryolan and Snazaroo, which are "parent-friendly" and easily washed-off faces (and clothes) with soap and water. In addition, most are hypo-allergenic, non-toxic and free from animal testing.

The basework is applied with damp sponges whilst the linework and fine detail is added with artists brushes. We often also use pearlised paints and glitters for a stunning final effect. A full face takes approximately 5 minutes to create (sometimes less) and dries very quickly. The effect is dramatically colourful, does not smudge easily and usually lasts until bathtime.

Safety

Safety aspects are very important so we take great care to avoid any potential problems by using the best products on the market and avoid painting anyone suffering from known skin problems. All Doodles' painters are fully trained to a high standard and follow a strict code of conduct covering safety and hygiene aspects.

It is Doodles' policy not to paint children of two years of age or under and any children with skin disorders or infections such as coldsores. However, in such circumstances it is often possible to paint a hand or limb instead.

Doodles is fully insured for public liability and clearly displays notices at each venue to inform customers of the facts outlined above, as well as other safety issues.

Cleaning

Removal of water-based facepaint is best achieved with warm water, soap and a flannel.

Face paint should never be left on the skin overnight. Should any paint get onto clothes, it is recommended that these be left to soak overnight in cold water before a normal hot wash.

F.A.C.E.

In 1994, Alison became one of the founder members of FACE (The Face Painting Association) which is a nationwide organisation for independent professional face painters.

FACE was set up in order to raise standards of face painting in the UK and ensure the use of safe products and techniques. All FACE members have to first pass a strict practical test of their ability to paint safely to a high standard at speed. Our membership now contains many of the best face painters in the UK.

During the past 5 years Alison has been actively involved in FACE as a previous Newsletter Editor, Regional Representative for the East Midlands and Committee Member. In 1997 she won the award for Best Original Design and was a member of the judging panel for the Face Painter of the Year.

Alison has passed her Stage 2 Advanced Painting assessment, as have many of the Doodles team.
