2004:  What's in Store ?

January 5th 2004

With another great year in F/P behind us, fawcettpoustie.com looks ahead to 2004 to see what could potentially be in store.

As of now F/P are busy at work on the production of the “We Rock’n’Roll: Uncut Diamonds, Rubies & Rocks Box Set” which has been in the planning stages for over a year – and is getting ever closer to completion. Fawcett is working on the final mastering of the monster collection of well over 100 songs and Poustie is busy working on the artwork and packaging. The release is expected mid-February at the earliest.

Prior to the release of the Box-Set, it is likely that the band will release the final single off 2003’s

This Is It album, which is expected to be the Fawcett-penned acoustic blues number “Sunday Sun”.

According to sources close to the band, work has already begun on new material with Fawcett having written at least 3 new songs since TII and Poustie in the throws of writing his first. No concrete plans are yet in place for any recording sessions that may lead to the band’s 12th studio album.

The likelihood is that fans can expect a new album by 2005 at the earliest, although with F/P you never know what may be just around the corner.

Nick and Chris have hinted at their intention to write more co-penned material for the new album, something that they have not done with much consistency over the years. There are rumours of a possible writing session planned at the Coach house in July – although this is purely speculative.

The earlier announcement of a possible Chinchok release in 2004 has yet to be confirmed, and at this stage looks like an outside bet, although yet again, you never know. A Chinchok project would most likely take in songs from the TII album, favourites for which would be Love Bullet, Time To Start Again and This Is It, although Here on Business and Everything Turns Out Right In The End would also be in contention.

Other rumours suggest that the band is planning to take a serious left-turn that could see them working on a Musical or Broadway type-show or Vegas spectacle. Whether or not such a production would feature F/P as actors and musicians, or merely as scriptwriters and songwriters is unclear. Some sources suggest that all new material being worked on by the band is being aimed towards this adventurous new project. Nick has mentioned in interviews that this is a direction he is keen to pursue – but certainly no concrete moves have yet been made in this direction.

Another plan Fawcett has is to take a 6-month holiday to travel the world during the second half of the year – using the time and inspiration to work on material for future F/P projects, whatever they may be.

As for archive releases, it is unlikely that after the box-set that there is anything else likely to be made available now that the band’s entire catalogue of released and unreleased material will have received the re-mastering treatment.

One thing is for sure – whatever happens in the World of F/P – fawcettpoustie.com will be there to report it first !
