New Album - Progress Report

Reports coming out of Cooper's Court in England and Studio-P in Thailand suggest that F/P are making considerable progress working on their as- yet untitled 12th studio album.

Nick has already recorded guitar and vocal tracks for "Holding Down The Hard Times", "Another Morning", "Sunshine of My Day" and "Mexican Hat". Chris meanwhile has recorded piano and vocal tracks on "Don't Let 'Em Grind You Down", "These Are My Streets" and "Down To Harlem".

The plan is for both band members to bring 5 songs to the table in July when the band will spend 3-days at Cooper's Court recording their respective parts on each others songs and producing and mixing the album.

Sources close to the band have revealed that the material recorded so far is simply stunning with a variety of different genres covered, some typical F/P and some a little more experimental. The band members are said to be very excited and eager to get into the studio proper in July.

Amid the enormous hype surrounding the release of the amazing new career-spanning box set, We Rock'n'Roll: Uncut Diamonds, Rubies & Rocks, F/P have added to the euphoria by making the most welcome of U-Turns and announcing plans to release a brand new studio album in August 2004 !

Just weeks after the band revealed that a new studio album was not expected until 2005 at the earliest Nick and Chris have stunned fans by revealing that plans are already afoot to go back into the studio in July and record the follow up to the band's 2003 masterpiece THIS IS IT !

Speaking exclusively to fawcettpoustie.com from his home in Bangkok Chris today reveals the reasons behind the band's change of heart.

"Originally we were looking at 2004 as a year to regroup and start building up a foundation of demos and had planned a group writing session in July, but since then Nick has already said that he's got at least 5 demos on the go and is bursting with ideas. I'm also feeling the rush of adrenaline and  inspiration that usually comes before a great period of creativity...I think brought about by the great progress that I've made in building myself a new home studio here in Bangkok.

I've got a wonderful new piano and state of the art recording setup that is just itching to be put to good use. I've already started to cut some rough demos and it's sounding very, very exciting indeed.

There's a long way to go for both of us, and undoubtedly it's going to test us to our very limits but that's the challenge we have set and it's a challenge that we confidently feel will bring out the very best in FP.

t's been several years since we really pushed ourselves to write to a strict schedule and it's something that we feel would be healthy for the band. Probably not since 1994 have we felt so, to use the current expression, "pumped" about writing and really pushing ourselves to the next level.

We were delighted with the last 2 albums, but we feel as though they have been too long in the making and feel that the fans deserve more regular output from the band.

We're also mindful of the fact that Nick will be shortly going on a 6-month jaunt around the world, which was originally intended to drum up creativity, but as it's already there we felt better to get on with it now and then regroup next year and, you never know, perhaps release another album then. It's all go, it's all positive and, as usual, it's typical FP madness !"

Chris declined to give any prospective album title or details, but said that the idea was to go for shorter, snappier material, perhaps going in a Beatlesque direction.

Watch this space for more news as it develops and in the meantime sit back, chill out and groove to 8 hours of never before released  FP magic !
