GROOVSTERS, FUNKSTERS & HIPSTERS Best of Compilation release ! |

October 7th 2002 Fawcett / Poustie released the long awaited compilation album Groovsters, Funksters & Hipsters (The Best of Fawcett/Poustie) featuring 13 career spanning hits plus the brand new song Hippy, recorded in August 2002 at the Coach House and Cooper’s Court studios. Groovsters marked the first F/P release since 2000’s Here on Business and Hippy, written by Poustie, opens up the set fabulously with some loud, strutting, grooving funk-rock mixed with gentle jazz solos as well as blistering rock solos. Elsewhere the oldest songs on the album are Sunshine Girl, the perennial classic and Long Way To Go from 1994’s Oath of Two Bally Rotters and from the same year Fawcett’s 13-minute epic If I Was a Poet ends the collection. Several tracks are culled from 1996’s Framed I and II albums, including 10,000 Tuesdays, Going on Holiday, You’re Gonna Pay and Lonely People. Representing Lessons are Venetian Rendezvous, You’re Welcome To It and the more surprising, but none the less inspired choice of High Seas of Rock’n’Roll.

Here on Buiness is represented by the title track itself as well as We’re on a Roll and Everything Turns Out Right In The End. Due to the time restriction of a single CD there are one or two notable exclusions, including Poustie’s epic Superude, but nevertheless the album captures so many great songs in one collection that it is truly representative of F/P at their very best. The cover art and CD packaging brilliantly capture the essence of the title Groovsters, Funksters & Hipsters with pictures of Nick and Chris and a collection of other reprobates dressed in hideous 1970’s garb including flared trousers, leather coats and wide collars strutting outside a pub in a sunny street in Bristol. Noticeable in the group of Groovsters are Lawton Green, bassist of Chinchok, and Richard ‘Harvey’ Flood saxophonist on Syncopated Man. The album marked the band’s first release on their newly formed label “Bally Rotter Records” which is also the label the band’s entire back-catalogue will be released on later in 2003.
