Below is a list of books that I found quite useful- they should be found in in the reference section.of most libraries. There are many charity-related books, but you do need to be selective and, for example, concentrate on the educational charities, as they will be more likely to support you. Also, find out whether there are any local charites in your area- they may consider helping you.
Books that list philanthropists are very useful (although loathed by the individuals named in them!). It is worth spending some time looking through and getting some ideas. Many wealthy individuals have their own foundations and you may be fortunate in persuading them that you are worth the support! I have been able to secure quite a significant amount of my fees this way. Many feel that Veterinary Medicine is an important and worthwhile career (which, of course, it is!)
Although I have tried to include as many books as possible, I'm sure I wont have covered them all, so I suggest you keep your eye out for others (and let me know so I can update my list)

A Guide to
Grants for Individuals in Need-J Smyth (DSCP)
This is a useful book in that it specifically deals with individuals. Many charities have a policy of not supporting individuals which is worth bearing in mind. I wasted lots of time writing to charities whom wouldn't consider me as I didn't represent an organisation. This includes the Lottery Grants, by the way!!!
