- Jeremy Pike was born in 1955. He read music at King's
College, Cambridge, where he took composition lessons
with Gordon Crosse, before becoming a postgraduate
student of composition with Paul Patterson and conducting
at the Royal Academy of Music.
-
- In 1979 he won the annual Polish Government Composition
Scholarship, becoming a pupil of Henryk Górecki in
Katowice. The following year the award was extended,
enabling him to continue his studies in Poland.
-
- Since returning to the UK he has directed the
electro-acoustic music studios of Warwick University and
the Royal Academy of Music.
-
- In 1989 he was appointed to the staff of Chetham's School
of Music in Manchester where he is now Head of
Composition and Contemporary Music.
-
- In 1998 he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to
undertake research in the application of new technology
to the arts, visiting major centres in the USA as well as
IRCAM in Paris.
-
- Commissions include a Missa Brevis for Warwick University
Chamber Choir and a concerto for the Hallé orchestra's
principal bassoonist, Graham Salvage. His output, which
is extensive, includes orchestral, chamber, instrumental
and vocal music written in a highly personal style which
combines an interest in new techniques with a belief that
music must be a means of communication accessible to
audiences. See list of principal works for
further details.
-
- He is also active as a conductor and in education. He is
Chairman of the North West Composers' Association.
