Extreme Modifications

I would like a 5 speed gearbox for the Elan for better motorway cruising. There are many Ford Gearboxes to choose from but all of them have problems with the location of the gear shift. The original gearbox is a Ford 2000e gearbox and the gear shift is in a very forward position.

To solve the gear shift location problem I could move the engine forward this would then effect the balance of the car. I could choose a lighter engine like the Rover K series (upto 190 BHP) fitted with either a Ford or Toyota gearbox.

This in turn raises the question of how original should this car. I would like to point out that this car was rescued from the Parts bin and I have no problems developing it the way I think it should be done.

Fuel injection

I have always considered fuel injection as a natural evolution for the car improving its reliability and drivability. There are many companies offering after market engine management system and the price is also beginning to fall.

Alloy wheels

I have alloy wheel on the Elan today using the standard Knock on fixings. The choice of alloy wheel styles is limited to zero. I could convert the car to bolt on hubs therefore expanding the range of wheels. But the Knock on's suit the car and it would be nice (unique) to keep them.

I would interested in your thoughts on these issues. Mail Me at ...
