My Elan I found the car
in 1988, it was being sold as a potential restoration or
spares, the previous owner had replaced the chassis with
a Spyder replacement, but had a rather bad accident with
a parked car. The owner at the time was already having an
+2 restored and require some original parts to complete
the restoration, he planned to use the accident damaged
car to act as a source for spares. Once his restoration
was complete the body shell of the damaged Elan was
repaired and advertised. As you can see from the
photographs it was hardly in perfect condition

I took delivery of a rolling shell and several
tea chests of parts. I was told that all the parts were
included, I found that most of the braking system was
incomplete. The glass and the interior had been removed
during the body repair, with the help of a full factory
workshop manual I have managed to piece this giant jigsaw
puzzle together. There are still some major tasks to
complete but the work continues. My
car was manufactured in December 1971 and was sold on 6
January 1972 from Hexagon Motor Works in North London.
This car quite unusual because it was sold fully
assembled from the factory, at the time it was common to
buy cars partly dismantled to avoid the Car Sales Tax.
There have been five owners in the cars 25 years.
