For my last day in Opononi I decided to stay local and see the surrounding country side. My landlady told me about a great little lane called Gorge Road that went all the way around the hill behind the village and had a great view as you can see!
She also told me about a waterfall that's hidden in the thick forest behind the village, it was a bit of an adventure to try and see it, but it was worth it in the end. I felt like Indiana Jones as I forced my way through what she called a forest but was more like a jungle and then suddenly coming out into a slight clearing to be greeted by the site of a beautiful waterfall.
The next day I had to drive back to Auckland and drop the hire-car off, then find a Hotel and catch an early morning flight to Fiji to meet up with the ship for the next leg of my adventure.
