25th November 2007 –  Woof Justice are the overall Champions !

Woof Justice are the overall 2007 Scrapheap Champion of Champions !  This weeks show was was provided by two very able teams as Woof Justice fought it out against the 2005 champions the Powerlifters when they had to build bulldozers.  In reality it should be considered that one team built a bulldozer and the other team built a speed racer .......................... and the bulldozer lost.  Both teams provided a brilliant build but the idea of the tractors with an articulated joint does sound very much like a steal from a build solution  provide by expert Tim Dray in the 2004 episode 'Off Road Rescue' for the Rough Riders.  It was clear that the idea by the Woof Justice team expert Richard Little was never going to work as a bulldozer, and this was confirmed when the machine failed to actually truly bulldozer anything other than a lightweight shed and a caravan when it failed to push the skip into it's correct position and also failed to bulldozer any earth into the hole.  This meant that the twin tractors could simply make use of their large wheels for the purpose of speed and just race to the finish line.   In contrast the machine design idea by the Powerlifter's expert Richard Keall to use tracks was in true keeping for a bulldozer design.  The outcome was in real scrapheap fashion as the wrong machine won the challenge.

Both teams were however excellent but there was only one good bulldozer design .............. and it lost.

Well done to Woof Justice in becoming the 2007 Scrapheap overall champions.

Sunday  2nd December  2007 Channel 4 are not showing Scrapheap Challenge on this Sunday

Sunday  9th December  2007 at 6:25pm, episode 13 - 'Isambard Kingdom Brunell Special'  NERDS vs. Clagsters

It was announced by Robert tonight (25th Nov 07) that next week (2nd Dec 07) we should see the special episode-13 challenge in tribute to the great Isambard Kingdom Brunell.  Scrapheap veterans will recall the faces of Captain Jeff (DP) Del Papa, Will 'Crash' Yerazunis and George 'Geo' Homsey as the NERDS from way back in the year 2000 , as they now return to your screens against The Clagsters who are led by Captain Turbo, aid by Geoff and Andy (although I have not received confirmation if Andy is with the team on this occasion) .  You last saw The Clagsters on screen in 2004 for the Scrapheap Mega Challenge when they built Locomotives.
This Scrapheap special has been moved to the Dec 9th 2007 at 6.25pm
.
Check on the day in case of last minute time changes.

24th November 2007 – Channel4 have changed the transmission time for Sunday 25th Nov 2007 !

Channel4  transmission times must made of elastic !  Once again Channel4 have revised their transmission times for the 12th episode of series-9 when we see this Series-9 Champions Woof Justice take on the present 2005(2006) Champions The Powerlifters in a grand final challenge to build a bulldozer.
This episode-12 is now going out at 6:30pm on Sunday 25th November 2007 on UK Channel4 television.

.
.

18th November 2007 –  Woof Justice become the series-9 winners !

Well what can we say ! what a final pair of machines and there we have it scrapheapers, after a complete year without Scrapheap during 2006 and then the split series-9 being shown in two parts during this year 2007 we finally have the a series-9 winning team ............. Woof Justice.  Both teams began in good form with the Beach Bums playing around as much as concentrating on the build, much to the stress of their poor expert who clearly did not understand that good old fashion scrapheap team humour.  The Beach Bums major build error was in not obtaining a four wheeled drive system due to a missing prop shaft which gave them a time of 57 seconds to cross the trout lake.   In contrast  Woof Justice came to a period of concern when they understood the reality of their massive build but fought their way past the mental barrier to produce a good machine.  It was clear on screen that although the teams  both had the engines running  their machines were clearly not completed, with seats simply sitting on cross members, welds missing everywhere, no roll-cages or seat belts, missing drive systems, no cooling systems etc etc etc ........... but that is magic of television when the show makers can then announce that they fitted the roll-cages to ensure safety.  It was then time for the challenge and after building their thin-wheeled swamp racer Woof Justice took on the Beach Bums in a challenge to race their machines across a trout lake, and Woof Justice crossed the lake in 54 seconds to come away with the series-9 Scrapheap Challenge trophy.

However, Woof Justice still have one final hurdle to cross and that is to complete in the Grand Final challenge as they take on the present  Scrapheap grand champions the Powerlifters, aka Neil, Mark and Dave, when it is announced by Robert and Lisa that the teams have to build Dozers to bulldozer their way through the challenge ......... literally. Don't miss this exciting Grand Final episode next Sunday 25th November 2007 on UK Channel 4 television at the earlier time of 4:45pm.
.
.
.

11th November 2007 –  Woof Justice takes the second semi-final win !

This week we saw Woof Justice take the win for the second semi-final round with their drag sled.  Woof Justice have previously only fought one battle when in episode 6 their MORTAR challenge win took them automatically directly through to this semi-final round.  In contrast last weeks winners the Beach Bums have had to battle two previous battles with the HUMAN CANNONBALL and the AIRBOAT challenges.
.
This was an interesting challenge because that Lisa clearly explained the rules that each 'time' was added together and the team with the smallest accumulative time would be the winners ...................... and then the challenge went like this ..................
Run number 1  Woof Justice, run time 10.42 secs
Run number 2  Turbo Taxis, run time 18.59 secs
Run number 3
Woof Justice, run time 9.42 secs (running total 20.24 secs)
Run number 4  Turbo Taxis, run time 16.13 secs (runnning total 35.12 secs
Run number 5  Woof Justice, run time 10.56 secs (final running total 31.2 secs)
Run number 6  Turbo Taxis, run time was not disclosed (final running total not disclosed)
........... but the wierd thing is that by run number 5  Woof Justice already had it in the bag with the shortest accumulative time so they could not be beaten because the Turbo Taxis already had a greater accumulative time of even after the second round.  So it is not clear why such a big thing was made about the final run because even if the Turbo Taxis did their third run in half a second they would have still lost.  But Hey, that's the fun TV.
.
Well done to both teams and it is a shame to losse the Turbo Taxis.
This now means that next week it will be Torquay vs. Newcastle as the Beach Bums fight it out in the final against Woof Justice when they have to build four-wheeled swamp racers and then race across a trout lake.
.
.

4th November 2007 –  The Beach Bums take the first semi-final win !

.... with two big builds. Well done to both teams and congratulations to the Beach Bums on their semi-final win.  It is fair to say that the Extinguishers machine was turning too fast to be effective and the reduced speed (done by engine rpm) meant that the engine was way outside its power band and therefore kept stalling.   The Beach Bums bucket wheeled excavator was perfect with the gear reduction system meaning they had both the slow turning speed and the full engine torque required for the task in hand.
.

2nd November 2007 –  The full transmission times for the remaining series-9 episodes

The good news is that the first of the returning series-9 episodes does begin at 5:45pm this coming Sunday 2nd  November 2007 as already advised here on the Steve G Scrapheap. Even RDF Media the makers of Scrapheap Challenge did not receive the final transmission times for the remaining series-9 episodes until today and they have been good enough to share the information received with all you scrapheap fans.  It does also explain why people with EPG recorders had not been able to set the 'series link' option.

In the first episode of this returning series-9 you will see the 1st quarter final challenge between the Beach Bums and the Extinguishers as they have 10 hours to build 'Airboats', and all this happens this Sunday 4th November 2007 at 5.45pm as advertised.   Below is the full listing of times including the titles of the two roadshow specials.

26th October 2007 –  oh is nothing simple these days ? Channel4 transmission times for November 4th 2007

Well even the Steve G website has it's up's and downs.  I have received information about new transmission times every other week, however today C4 have actually listed for the first time their schedule for the return of the remaining series-4 episodes, and guess what .......... the times seem to have returned to the original proposed slot of 17:45 hrs (5.45pm).   The following is a screenshot of their listing from the C4 site as at  today.

It is still recommended that you check the TV press nearer the day to be safe

Sunday  4th November 2007 at 5:45pm - episode 9 - Semi final (EARTHMOVERS) - Beach Bums vs Extinguishers

Sunday 11th November 2007 at 5:30pm -  episode 10 - Semi final (DRAG  SLEDS) - Turbo Taxis vs Woof Justice

Just for a little fun I have listed the names of the planned challenges 'hangman style' have a guess and see if you can name them.  Winners will be announced on this Steve G Scrapheap after each episode.

The Future for Scrapheap Challenge
Secondly, the 'Steve G Scrapheap' has some unexpected good news for all you Scrapheap fans.  It has been reported in various areas (including even this very website) that the days were numbered for Scrapheap Challenge, however some very interesting developments have come to light.  It has transpired that a draft speech being prepared for the Channel 4 chief Kevin Lygo ready for his presentation to the broadcast industry in Edinburgh became available to the outside world in advance of his presentation.  The speech outlined the future programming strategy for C4 television and incorrectly stated that "Scrapheap was itself heading for the scrapheap".  When this statement along with various other non Scrapheap related subjects reached the TV press it just snowballed.  I have been reliably informed of this new information and have since separately checked the details via a second source which confirmed the position.  What this means is that whilst Channel 4 and/or RDF Media have not actually decided if Scrapheap will return to our screens, it is however clear that Scrapheap Challenge IS NOT YET confirmed to the scrapheap itself.  Scrapheap Challenge is most  still 'on the table' and under consideration so make sure you all write to Channel 4 to express your wish for it to continue.

12th August 2007 –  So where is the Scrapheap now ........ FOR REAL !!!.

Having been monitoring the C4 forum of recent weeks the only topic seems to be "where is the scrapheap located at the moment" and therefore to put you 'partially' out of pain have a look at the following pictures ...................

this was the new site before the Scrapheap crew moved in ..............
before Scrapheap Challenge moved in

and this is the filmset in all it's glory .........................
Scrapheap Challenge 2006/2007/2008

So what did I mean by saying "partially out of pain", well it goes without saying that I cannot release the precise co-ordinates of this location. Sorry all

20th July 2007 –  The end of series-10 filming and maybe the end of Scrapheap Challenge

You just have to see this video by Robert Llewellyn
This past couple of weeks has seen the completion of filming for Scrapheap Challenge series-10 due to be shown (hopefully) on Channel 4 television sometime in 2008.  The BIG NEWS however is that next years episode may be the last ever Scrapheap Challenge.  As reported on my sister site Scrappy Races has already bitten the dust, and it has been reported, as you might say "from the horses mouth", Rob the Llew himself that  the possibility is very strong that there might not be another Scrapheap despite the fact that they have already received application for a series-11.  It does seems that there is no signed agreement between C4 and RDF to commission series-11 at the moment.  Anyway have a look at Robert's excellent video on YouTube under his own brand name LlewTube and see for yourself.

Let us hope the rumour is not true, and if we hear anything more on this subject here at the Steve G Scrapheap then you will be the first to know.
UPDATE: refer to the new information above dated 27th September 2007

On another note you will pleased to hear that some of the cast and crew of Scrapheap met together this weekend to celebrate the marriage of Sim Oakley (original head of Scrapheap engineering) and Mair Joint  (costume designer and stylist). We wish them both the very best for the future.

10th June 2007 –  Scrapheap Roadshow dates during August 2007.

Many thanks to everyone who have requested a reminder to be sent out so you do not miss the return of Scrapheap Challenge on October 14th 2007.  A reminder will be sent to you all the week preceding the return. If anyone else would like a reminder then submit your e-mail address to the Steve G Scrapheap by clicking here.   Please be assured that your e-mail details will not be disclosed to any other party for any reason whatsoever.

3rd
June 2007 –  The Turbo Taxis take the second quarter final win with their Sumo Wrestling twin-car. They say you wait ages for a bus or taxi and then they all come at once, well tonight the Turbo Taxis twin-car / twin-engined Sumo Wrestler certainly did the trick when they arrived at the same time.  It was an excellent build within the given 10 hours time and the amount of effort put into the build by both the Turbo Taxis and their opponents the Super Subs was clear to see.  I was concerned from the outset about the idea of the single wheel on the Super Subs truck chassis, not only for the stability but mainly for the strength due to the periods when the wheel would be at 90 degrees to the travel direction .......... and therefore it was to take all the strain.   The idea of the Super Subs rear triple-tyre brake anchor was excellent, but even though the Super Subs expert Mr B (for Bunter) had the opportunity to see the Turbo Taxi's winch ramp in advance of the challenge day did not help their efforts to secure a place in the semi-finals.  Mind you as Mr B is the Father of the Turbo taxis team expert Alan Bunter it is hard to believe they did not both have a good idea of what the other was up to ............ unless 'Mr B'  could enlighten us further.   It was a shame that we did not see the Turbo Taxis have the opportunity to use the winch ramp during the challenge but in Scrapheap it is not unusual to spend an amount of time to build a part of the machine that never gets used, maybe their winch did not actual work .......................... unless 'Alan B' could enlighten us further.

This quarter final win for the Turbo Taxis now means they will take on Woof Justice in the second semi-final round on 11th October 2007, and the first semi-final round will be on Sunday 4th November 2007 when the
Beach Bums challenge the Extinguishers to build an Earthmoving machine.

If anyone is worried you may miss the return of Scrapheap series-9 you could submit your e-mail address to the Steve G Scrapheap by clicking here and a reminder e-mail will be automatically sent to everyone the week previous when Channel 4 confirm the start time.

27th
May 2007 –  Only 2 seconds decide the winners, Well done to the Beach Bums. Well tonight we saw the Beach Bums as the first of the quarter final winners of this years Scrapheap.  The Beach Bums and The Diggers were each aided by their experts in the form of Jeremy Harris for the Beach Bums, and Tony Broad guiding the Diggers.  The combination meant that both teams produced excellent  machines.  It is brilliant to see both builds works so well as it makes a great challenge for viewer enjoyment.  It did seem to myself that Jeremy's second run was taken with care to avoid water entering the engine, hopefully Jeremy can enlighten us with more details himself.  Maybe Jeremy or the Beach Bums could also tell us how the Beach Bums airboat grew a third surf board by the time of the challenge.  It is also interesting how such a build compared with earlier scrapheap days when one expert actually crafted the propeller blade by-hand from wood found on the heap, compared to finding this time a complete blade and engine assembly ready to run ...  Hmmm !   To read more details about the builds and the teams you can click on the blue challenge links in each of the yellow boxes in the chart above. These links will take you to the information already provided on the excellent Channel 4 Scrapheap website.

The second quarter final can be seen next week on Sunday 3rd June 2007 when the Super Subs take on the Turbo Taxis  to build Sumo Wrestlers.  There is no third or forth round quarter final challenge as the two lucky teams the Extinguishers and Woof Justice received automatic entry through to the semi-final rounds direct from the preliminary rounds.  There is no real reason for such a decision other than the program makers RDF having only twelve teams over six challenges so the maths would not work any other way using a knock-out method of rounds.

It is hoped that this Steve G Scrapheap may have the opportunity to share with you some behind-the-scenes stories from some of the team members and experts from this weeks challenge.  If you have any questions you would like to ask any team then post you questions here and I will where possible contact the teams or experts concerned.  The Questions and Answers will be posted here on The Steve G Scrapheap.

May 2007 – Robert 'The Llew' Llewellyn's VIDEOS, plus other good Scrapheap related items Many people are not aware that Robert 'The Llew' Llewellyn appears in a number of video's on You Tube (or as Robert refers to it 'Llew Tube') that cover a various range of subjects in The Llew's normal humourous manner.  There are also a number of Scrapheap related videos on You Tube that may interest you avid fans as they contain the odd 'extra bit' that is not normally seen.
You can find each video using the following links.

16th May 2007 – series-9 round winners table added

I have now added a series-9  table that charts the winning teams as they progress.  As in all previous years there are twelve teams that compete over eleven episode to the series final, this means that the maths would not add up unless some teams have fewer challenges compared to other teams.  Study the chart above and you will notice that four teams have to first win their preliminary rounds to reach the quarter final rounds, but  two teams when they win are already though the quarter finals.  In simple terms four teams have to compete an extra challenge to reach the series final.   I  feel that there should be 16 teams over eight preliminary challenges (8 episodes), then the next four quarter final challenges (4 episodes) could be for the previous eight winning teams to fight it out, who then go on to the two semi finals (2 episodes), before the series final (1 episode).  That would mean a total of 15 episodes which is what RDF and Channel4 have allocated anyway, and they could still fit in the 16th episode Grand Final to take on the previous years winners.

Buy hey !  that's just me speaking.

Finally it is good to see that the Scrapheap forum is kicking into gear again :-)

12th May 2007 – Steve G's scrapheap website updates ....... lack off ?

I have received e-mail from a number of people asking why my website has not been updated during the present series-9 epsiodes.  This is due to an unfortunate personal reason that is presently taking up much of my time.  I apologies to everyone and hope that normal updates to this site will take place as soon as possible.

In the meantime please visit the Channel 4 website at Scrapheap Challenge 2007 for more detail about the challenges and teams.

I have received information within the last 24 hrs that Channel 4 television here in the UK may finally show the missing Scrapheap Challenge series-9 episodes. This may be as soon as Sunday 15th April 2007 and if this is correct then we may finally see the Beach Bums take on the Vikings when they battle it out as human cannonballs. Watch the local press and the Sky/cable EPG’s for times.

7th March 2007 – UK Scrapheap Challenge series-10 begins filming in next few weeks

Even though we have still yet to see the SHC series-9 episode, I can now confirm that RDF Television will indeed still begin filming the follow up series-10 episodes. The filming will begin within the next few weeks and continue through until the grand final due to be filmed around July 2007. At least this time the editors should have more than the usual two months to complete the editing. It is hoped that this commitment to the filming of series-10 reassures all the Scrapheap Challenge fans that the show will reappear on your screens. From the small information gathered regarding the reason for the delay of series-9 it seems that Channel 4 also bought another RDF project and used this to transmit instead of Scrapheap, then Channel 4 proposed an alternative transmission schedule for Saturday nights but the alternative dates were not agreeable to RDF television as they did not match the viewer genre for such programs and it was feared that viewing figures for a Saturday evening slot would be too low. For this reason an alternative slot was never re-scheduled by Channel 4. Inside information reveals that the missing episodes may begin to be shown around Easter time April 2007.
