THE 13th WINTER CHALLENGE TO BARCELONA, SPAIN. THE START FROM BROOKLANDS MUSEUM, 26TH JANUARY 2002.
It always amazes me just how many people turn up to watch an event like this (and I'm one of them!). I arrived at Brooklands at 7.45am on a wet Saturday morning in the middle of January to be greeted by the site of at least three hundred people already there! And there was more to come! The Winter Challenge this year was heading to Barcelona and once again it was a complete variety of vehicles. Just about the newest I saw was a late sixties MGB, the earliest being a 19245 Bentley 4.5 litre model. The cars started leaving the museum grounds promptly at 9.30 to head off for the coast and then across Europe for the best part of a week.
The 1934 Lagonda was first off.
By the time the cars started off, the wind was lashing down, it was cold too. Still, that will prepare the teams for the trip over the Alps etc!! |
