SAWLEY AND LONG EATON PARK CRICKET CLUB

Fantastic Festival of Cricket

Sawley & Long Eaton Park Cricket Club will be hosting twelve matches in eight days at their ground on West Park, Long Eaton beginning Saturday 12th July until 19th July.

The festival, sponsored by Local opticians Ryley & Evans will feature four senior fixtures from the Derbyshire County cricket League. Three junior age group matches including U11, U13 and U15 league matches from the Erewash Young Cricketer’s League. Two cup finals featuring teams from cricket Erewash senior competitions and a girl’s representative match between Erewash Girls U13 and Derbyshire Dales U13 Girls. On the Friday evening four local clubs will enjoy a kwik cricket festival with eight games played during the evening. A highlight of the festival will be on Wednesday evening when Bill Camm’s President XI entertains Vic Brownett’s Invitation XI featuring many former club players.

Douglas Glass, principal of Ryley and Evans said, ‘this was the perfect way of supporting a genuine community event and club and improving the profile of the practice in the Long Eaton and Loughborough area.’

The festival also features on Sunday 13th July, between a junior age group match and the girl’s representative fixture the official opening of the extended Graham Draycott Pavilion by Mike Turner MBE from the English Cricket Board. The extension was funded by a grant of £58,000 from the ECB and recognises Sawley & Long Eaton Park’s commitment to showcasing cricket in the local community especially junior cricket.

Chair Michael Hopkins said, ‘the extended pavilion provides the facilities our vibrant junior cricketers deserve as well as providing match day facilities for our 3rd and 4th XI at a weekend.’

A programme is available for the festival while a full listing of the fixtures with start times is available on the club’s web site www.sawleycc.com. Everybody is welcome to enjoy the cricket and enjoy the facilities at the club.
