The Albums

Honeychild

This was a major departure for Jenny...a dance album...and one wonders whether it was a personal choice or a response to early 90s fashion. Whichever, the triumph that it is, is due in no small part to the playing skills of Sly and Robbie, and Mark Forrester’s inspired production. Andrew Farriss makes his usual rock-solid contribution. The album gets into a great groove from the word go, with the classic Break in the Weather-it has a truly original, yet catchy, chorus - and only lets up for the dreamy ballad I’ve had you.

As for the version of Squeeze’s Tempted - well it seems a little superfluous to me, but it’s nice to have a bit of a Brit influence. Other tracks I like particularly are Zero, There for You and Crackerjack Man. Lyrically, the album seems to me to be “Jenny-lite”, simple sentiments, making room for the music, and it should also be said that though Jenny’s voice is strong throught, she is never given the space to let rip. A minor quibble, though.
