The Jupiter Pluto opposition 2000/2001.
Jupiter is opposite, in the skies above the Earth, to Pluto three times in the years 2000 and 2001. The dates of exactitude of this triple opposition are September 4th 2000, October 13th 2000 and May 6th 2001. These oppositions occur across the zodiacal signs Gemini and Sagittarius. They are the climax of the Jupiter Pluto cycle which began on DEC 2nd 1994 with the conjunction of the two planets (geocentrically) at the end of Scorpio. The last oppositions of these two planets occurred in April 1988, and before that in April 1975. Both of these were single oppositions. The next conjunction of Jupiter and Pluto cycle occurs in Dec. 2007, that time in late Sagittarius.
The Jupiter Pluto cycle in astrology is said to be synchronised with the ebb and flow of power structures (civil and political) in societies and in the global community as a whole. The opposition period underway at this time is by nature a time of 'fullness' of power structures, a point of climax before the inevitable waning of the 'plutocratic' structures, and a manifestation of a polarisation of opposites in affairs of 'state'.
During the opposition period other faster moving planets and the Sun and Moon form planetary pictures with the opposition, notably 'T-squares, 'Grand Crosses', and 'Kites'. These patterns bring the opposition into play into the more personal, emotional and social areas of life.
One such planetary picture occurs in late August 2000 when the New Moon at degrees Virgo makes a T-square with the Jupiter Pluto opposition. There are many other times during the ten month period (starting August 2000) when such pictures emerge.
These three oppositions are followed by Saturn opposing Pluto in the period August 2001 to May 2002.
