Building a Greenhouse

I have had an 8 ft by 6 ft Norfolk Greenhouse for about 8 years

At the end of September I ordered a 12 ft by 6 ft Greenhouse from Norfolk to extend my area to 20 ft by 6 ft

This arrived in late October and by the week after Xmas I had built the new extension.

The whole 20 ft by 6 ft was securely screwed down all round the base to 8 in by 2 in wood

All was finished on Saturday night

Sorry about the quality of the image but it was taken at dusk.

The next Morning (Sunday) I went to my Allotment to start insulating the greenhouse.

There had been a gale overnight and this is what I found.

The original 8 ft by 6ft part of the greenhouse was old and frail and could not be salvaged.

This is the section to the right of the image.

I waited until the weather forecast had improved and started rebuilding the new part with the base screwed to 8 in by 2 in wood fixed by masonry bolts through the base slabs.

The rebuilding was half done when more gales arrived and the metal support bars were twisted and the rigid panels blown out. I had no spool in my camera so do not have an image of this.

I was more than slightly discouraged by this. However I waited until late March and started to rebuild (again) with a full wooden frame screwed on to the metal supports and finally finished during the first week in April.

The finished article at last

Introducing Lottie the Allotments Cat.

Lottie arrived at the allotments about four weeks ago and soon became everybodies friend,
unless any member refused to feed her.

She has taken up residence in Harry's greenhouse, sleeps in a box of straw and snoozes
on the platforms built for bringing on seeds.
