Broadus McAfee is the gentlemen that compiled the Genealogy book that I have.  He was a Colonel in the army.  He was my grandfathers cousin.  Meaning, Broadus's grandfather (Andrew Hunter McAfee) had a brother (Lafayette McAfee) who was my grandfathers (Homer McAfee) grandfather.  I can make a copy and send to you for your records if you have an address you would like to provide.  It contains pictures of McAfees here from Georgia and North Carolina.  One of my favorites, is a picture of Lafayette McAfee (My Grandfathers Grandfather) and my grandfather in front of Lafayette when he was a little boy.  The book I have is very detailed in providing tracability of the descendents of John William McAfee born in 1779 Tyrone, North Carolina.  Below, is information I have attained from the internet that alleges tracability to Malcolm McAfee of Colonsay.

It is hard to know where to start - almost any standard history of the Lords of the Isles will include references the the McAfee clan.  The rough story is that they came from Derry as part of the dowry of an O'Kane girl marrying Angus 1st, and provided a much-needed noble class (with others such as McKay, McAllister, McEachern etc.)  The McAfees were based in Colonsay 1250 - 1625 as chieftains, and as record keepers to the Lordship, also became hereditory priors of Oransay.  Their fortress Dun Eibhinn and many beautiful tombstones survive; they weere signatory to the Statutes of Iona, took a wrong turn in 1615 and the last chief was executed here 1623, although descendants are still here.  The clan is now widely scattered.  You might like to start by reading The Crofter and the Laird by John McPhee; my own book "Colkitto!" describes local events 1570 - 1647, and the RCAHM Scotland have published a guide to all the ancient monuments here (excellent, only £9.95 or so).
There are excellent resources, but nobody has collated them as yet; I hesitate to do it myself as I imagine the clan society is better placed, although I have watched in amazement as in 25 yrs I have known the Association they have failed to produce even the sketchiest of pamphlets.

I am glad to see that you are interested in information concerning ancestors of Colonsay.
 
I have a book that one of my relatives put together in the 1950's concerning the McAfee Family here in the United States.  His research alleges that my family is related to Malcolm McFee (McDuffie) around the 1680's and buried on Iona after a dispute of the Iona Statutes.  And that we are of the Alpine lineage.  His research also alleges that the McAfee family was connected with the Island in some type of ownership (Priors or something like that).  Perhaps through a relationship with the McDonald clan.
 
Do you know how can I find out more information on my Ancestors and who they were?
