Skate boarding is one of the greatest sports in the world because:- Firstly its very cheap to start (from £10-£100). Secondly you can go on
almost any type of land from quiet roads to your back garden. And thirdly you
can do loads of cool tricks. Skate boarding is great fun, but you do need to be very careful to keep out
of the way of cars.
Deck There are all sorts of skateboards like cruisers which go very fast, mini
boards which are very small and the normal boards which are good for tricks. Skate boards are made up of a deck which is made of wood. You stand on it and
it usually has grip tape on it. The deck sits on two trucks which are used for
turning. The four wheels are attached to the trucks with special bearings which
reduce friction and help you to go faster.

Ollys An Olly is a jump in which all four wheels of your board leave the floor. Grinds A grind is a trick ride or Olly where you jump onto the edge of an object and
slide your trucks along it. Skating is hard at first but after a lot of practice you should be able to do
Ollys, Grinds and other tricks like 180 degree turns going up ramps.
