| Welcome to one of Linda's pet projects!
First and major warning: Do NOT enter
this page if you think Xena was the most infallible creature on earth, or
that Joxer was a useless waste of space. I promise you, you won't like
what you find!
I was never very happy with the portrayal of Joxer as we saw him in the
series, XENA: Warrior Princess. It always struck me as bizarre that,
in a warrior society such as Ancient Greece, such a seemingly bumbling and
inept boaster had managed to survive long enough to have reached adulthood!
Joxer always seemed so useless and yet as the series progressed, he always
seemed to be the one to say or do the right thing, or to be in the right
place to help things work out. It was almost as if that was why he was
around....
So, having become a little tired of the 'all men are idiots' message
which the show continued to ram down my throat, I started to play with an
alternative scenario. In the series, Xena was portrayed as being
poised on the brink of being damned to Tartarus. Ares certainly
considered her to be his special Chosen One. But Ares wasn't the only
deity of war the Greeks had, and even if the series decided to virtually
ignore her until the very last minute before wasting her, I couldn't see
Athena standing by and allowing someone with the promise Xena showed to be
thrown away. But she wouldn't be able to make an overt move for her.
Not without triggering a clash with Ares which might spill over to hurt
other people.
So maybe she decided to get sneaky and send an agent to help things
along. Someone no-one would suspect in a million years of being smart,
and capable and an expert warrior. Because he makes it so very, very
obvious that he isn't.
This, then, is an AU of the Xena universe - or it will be when I get off
my butt and write some more of the stories! I won't even try and
include everything which happened in the series, since the makers seemed to
change their mind season by season and also seemed to have Xena
time-travelling every five minutes! My version of events remain
contemporary with Hercules and are set (very roughly) in Bronze Age Greece.
Hope you enjoy the trip! |
