Its hard to believe that Croydon considered scrapping competing in this league when Shane and Ashley turned up as one man teams, but the Harriers showed some class and consolidated their position in the weekend meet at Erith. The pick of the performances included wins for George Thatcher in the 400m (50.7), Paul Ogun in the triple jump (13.14m) on his return after 3 years and Kayliegh Ferguson in the 100m Hurdles (15.5). Well done to everyone it was a great team performance.

Mens Southern League Ashford 8th July 2006
The 10 Men Win
Due to fixture clashes with the English schools and British Masters and injury, only 10 Croydon Athletes made the journey to Ashford for the penultimate fixture. Needing to win to keep promotion hopes alive the ten men performed magnificently. Dominating their opponents and in the end producing a comfortable victory. To pick up maximum match points in a push for promotion the team worked hard to cover all events. There were many excellent achievements on the day. Ben Robson (U17) making his debut in the Men’s Southern League, ran an excellent race to win the B-String, having lead all the way with a 100m to go he came under pressure but dug deep to pull away. Ben then teamed up with Dan Xiao-Ho to win the 400m A & B, Dan having previously won the 400m Hurdles. Ben finished the day unbeaten contributing to the winning 4 x 400m team along with George Thatcher, Darren Wollen and Dan. George Thatcher also won every event he competed in, winning the individual High Jump, 800m and 200m and contributing to wins in both relays, the highlight being the 800m which he won by almost 50m. Leading points winner was Peter Roberts who won the B String 110m hurdles, High Jump and Discus. Manny Nsudoh Hall contributed the second most points with wins in the Javelin and second places discus, shot and 100m Hurdles. Darren Wollen dominated the sprints winning 100, 200 and overcoming a 10m deficit on the last leg of the 4 x 100m. Nick Gould ran a solid 5000m for 2nd place and 3rd in the 1500m. Team Manager Chris King won the B Shot and finished 2nd in the A-string Hammer. Terry Lapins contributed in the 100m, Triple Jump, achieving a P.B in the Long Jump (5.51m) before running a good steeplechase.

U15 long jumper Derek Yeboah was the star performer, clearing six metres for the first time to win comfortably at 6.01m.
Team U15 captain Kariym Irving also shone, taking second place in the second year shot with a 10.09m throw.
Daryll Rugless scored a clear win in the second year triple jump with an 11.48m effort and took a close up second in the 400m in 57.7sec. David Aofoalu was Harriers' other gold medal winner, heading the U15 second year 100m in 12.3sec
Richard Baah and Twinelle Hopeson won athlete of the match awards to cap off a fine team performance.
Baah recorded a season's best 56m discus throw and Hopeson won her gong for an impressive 25.3sec U15 200m victory, before anchoring the girls 4x100m relay team home in first.
Three previous award winners also had good results. Team captain Gavin Roye ran a 100m personal best winning in a time of 11.2sec and triple jump star Trevor Okoroafor won his event at 13.66m, plus the discus at 26.69m. U15 sprinter Ehi Oboite equalled the 100m record of 11.1sec.
Oboite also starred in the 80m hurdles which he won convincingly in 11.8sec. Joash Howard made the 100m A Grade 1 maximum for Croydon, when he won the B string in 11.8sec.
U17 400m hurdles winner Sidique Tong was one of several U17s who raced into new performance territory when he won in 61.1sec. Adam Fletcher ran 52.6sec for a personal best in the 400m to finish second and ran a great anchor leg for Croydon's victorious 4x400m quartet, who won in 3:35.4.

Odette Campbell prevailed after a torrid tussle down the straight in the 300m A race in 41.0sec but had to concede by a tenth of a second in the 200m in 26.0sec and took a good second in the high jump at 1.48m.
Karym Irving won the discus with a personal best 38.52m, before Lawrence Akoye won the B string with a 36.61m throw and then won the A shot with a 12.41m put. South of England Championships 17-18TH June Crystal Palace
Croydon Harriers enjoyed a good measure of success in the South of England U20 Championships at Crystal Palace at the weekend.
The fast emerging Harriers won two silver medals and a bronze over two days.
Pole vaulter Tom Crawford had an excellent first time clearance at 4.50m to clinch his runners-up spot, while exciting triple jump prospect Trevor Okoroafor was once again over the daunting 14m mark, this time by 15cms, to add silver to his collection.
James Dassaolu, who successfully strode through his heat and semi final in 11.06sec and 10.80sec, before chasing the highly rated Harry Aikines Aryeety home in 10.75sec snatched bronze in the 100m.
First year U20 800m man George Thatcher just missed out on the medals, finishing fourth in a keenly contested final in 1:56.23. Another near medal miss came in the women's 100m hurdles courtesy of fourth placed Kayleigh Ferguson who clocked 15.04sec The Croydon club's other two competitors also acquitted themselves well. Laurence Dight made the 400m final thanks to a useful 51.22sec run in his heat, but ran out of steam in the final where he had to settle for seventh in 52.22sec.
Sprinter Darren Wollen ran 11.77sec for fifth in his 100m heat and also finished fifth in his 200m with a 23.22sec clocking.
Joscelynn Hopeson successfully returned to competition with a silver in the U20 100m. The Archbishop Tenison sports science student clocked 12.07sec to take second spot in her heat behind Asha Philip and that order was repeated in the final with the local girl crossing the line in 12.08sec.

National Young Athletes League Copthall Stadium 5th June
Croydon Harriers' young athletes, newly promoted to the National Premier League, faced the daunting prospect of an encounter with third placed Harrow, fifth placed home team Shaftesbury Barnet and the Vale of Aylesbury at the Copthall Stadium on Sunday.
Dorking 10 - 4th June 2006
Once again dogged by the non-availability of six key scorers, the enthusiastic squad of Croydon boys and girls was unable to capitalise on an outside chance of a second place, but did well given the circumstances.
They finished third and causing some unanticipated concern in the home camp and deservedly retained their sixth spot in the southern division.
A perfect start on the track, a win in the U17 girl's hurdles, looked odds on as Daisy Collingridge approached the final hurdle well clear, but she lost her stride and fell heavily. To her great credit, she clambered to her feet to finish a courageous fourth. Recovered from the impact, she later took second in a keenly contested 800m and won the B string 300m.
The A 300m winner was Odette Campbell, who looked impressive and totally in control for her 41.65sec clocking. She finished a full second ahead of the runner-up. She was similarly dominant in winning the 200m in 25.89sec and picked up more valuable points by coming third in the high jump.
U15 sprinter Twinelle Hopeson wowed the crowds once again with a scintillating sprint double. Fresh from her South of England triumphs she turned on the pace three times to cross the line first.
She took the 200m by almost a second in 25.07sec and followed it up with another grade one performance in the 100m, which she won comfortably in 12.27sec. Stephanie Braithwaite made the 200m a Croydon double with her B string win in 27.43sec.
Twinelle finished her day in perfect style by snatching 4x100m victory with a decisive dash down the home straight. The team time of 51.30sec put them 0.3sec ahead after having been a similar gap adrift at the third change.
In a match rich in grade one standards Croydon's athletes featured prominently with eight. Outstanding among these high achievers was team captain Gavin Roye whose 11.26sec 100m hurdles win earned him the track athlete of the match award, and Ehi Obiote who got two with his amazing U15 100m win in 11.14sec and his 11.88sec hurdles. Joash Howard came a close second in the U15 200m in 23.93sec.
The field event athletes had their share of top grade glory thanks to U15 discus thrower Kariym Irving who improved his best throw to win with a 36.33m effort. He also won the hammer throw at 31.80m as well as heading the B 80m hurdles in 12.98sec. Lawrence Akoye supported him splendidly with a winning B string discus throw of 33.52m.
U17 Javelin thrower Richmond Baah produced a fine series, topped by a 52.30m best. With his raw talent, it can only be a matter of time before he hits the 60m mark. He also contributed in the hammer, with first time throw of 22.09m for third place.
The girls achieved success in the U17 A shot, thanks to Lauren Smoother's 7.74m winning throw and young Keri Davison looked sharp winning the U13 70m hurdles in 13.09sec. The Armah sisters scored a rare family double with wins in the U13 girls shot. Rochelle with 6.57m and Hannah 5.64m.
The team also benefited from the successful debuts of several newcomers, among whom U13 Trinity boy Faraz Rafi was prominent in more ways than one. The tall 11-year-old athlete, head and shoulders above his rivals, won both the shot (7.45m), and the B high jump (1.25), and despite a fall in his first hurdles race, showed great presence of mind to calmly re-start and run in safely for the points.
One of the best runs came from fiercely competitive first year U17 Ben Robson in the 800m. The Woodcote High boy ran his rivals into submission with a well-earned personnel best of 2:03.31.
U13 two lapper Jordan Maurice had earlier set the front running trend by leading his event early, and holding on to win by 3sec in 2:24.77. Will Mercer advanced to 2:34.27 when taking the B first behind him.
More positive front running from Sophie Paterson in the U15 girls 800m earned her a clear win in 2:29.83.
South of England U17 pole-vault champion Ryszard Buk fought against niggling back pain, but could only clear 3.85m for third. Later he gamely cleared 1.60m to score in the B high jump too. A string high jumper Tsidi Dagadu lost on count-back at 1.88m.
Croydon did better in the relays than had at first been apparent. A dramatic double disqualification in the U17 boys 4x100m gave the seemingly third placed squad a welcome surprise win in 45.25sec.
The club also scored wins in the U15 boys 4x400m in 4:00.54, and took second in the U15 boys 4x100m, 47.25sec, U13 boys 4x100m in 47.27sec and the U17 girls 4x100m in 53.20sec.
The team has now as anticipated, dropped one place to sixth in the table but is still nicely in contention for a cup final place in the autumn.
Croydon put the disappointment of not scoring at the Sutton 10K behind them with a solid 29th out of the 50 teams competing at the Dorking 10 on Sunday.
The ever consistent Colin Oxlade was the club’s first runner home, completing the 10 mile race in an impressive 65:04. The first female Harrier was Clare Arnott who continues to go from strength to strength with an encouraging time of 92:10.
The next fixture in the road league is the Dysart Dash on the 25th June entries are available at www.ranlagh-harriers.com.

Mens Southern League Eastbourne 3rd June 2006
Dasaolu Sprints to League Record
James Dasaolu set a new league record for the 200m as he helped Croydon Harriers to move into the top 5 in the 3rd Division of the Southern Men’s League, in their latest fixture at Eastbourne.
The Under 20 Surrey Silver medallist powered home in a record 22.7s and completed a sprint double with a comfortable 100m victory in an impressive 10.9s.
It proved to be a day of many spirited individual performances as Lawrence Dight wrapped up the B string sprint events, winning the 100m (11.4s) and 200m (23.7s) before adding a 2nd place in his speciality event, the 400m in 53s.
More victories were added on the track with long distance maestro Dave Symons (5000m, 17:24), ever present Terry Lapins (Long Jump, 4.94m) and throwing specialist Manny Nsudoh-Hall (Javelin, 40.55m) all securing precious points for the club.
It was indeed Manny Nsudoh-Hall who epitomised Harriers’ team spirit on the day, with further wins in the B string Long Jump (4.94m) and 110m Hurdles (20.4s), as well as finishing runner up in the Discus (38.93m) P.B. and Shot Put (10.93m) P.B.
Croydon’s strong performance resulted in finishing 2nd of the 4th clubs competing and in the process ensured that their bid for promotion is still alive.
Sidelined Team Captain Robbie McIntrye felt that the team’s long trip was well worth it: “It was a great performance from a depleted team, and they’ve kept our aims for promotion still a strong possibility”.

Croydon Harriers' other top performer was U17 pole-vaulter Ryszard Buk who returned to winning ways after disappointment at Portsmouth last year.
He breathed a sigh of relief when the event was brought indoors to avoid the relentless rain. The Trinity School student soared to a winning PB height of 4.25m.
Trevor Okoarafor beat his own club U17 triple jump record with a terrific silver medal winning effort of 14.83m.
The Archbishop Lanfranc student was unlucky in that his best distance was achieved into a -3.9m/s wind, while the winner only had to contend with a 1.5m/s wind when he went just a few centimetres further.
U17 shot putter Erasmus Ntim-Dwewo recovered from injury to finish a respectable fifth with his effort of 12.61m.
U17 middle distance prospect Daisy Collingridge made further progress in the 800m where she had to be at the top of her game to qualify for the final in which she ran with great determination.
Completing the first 400m in 67sec the Croydon High School student maintained pace down the back straight and into the final bend, before digging deep to close up well towards the line to finish sixth in a PB of 2:18.09.

Harriers on song By Mike Fleet
.
Young Jordan Maurice went one better on the winning front, with three. The U13 county 800m bronze medallist won his "two lapper" with a strong surge down the home straight in 2:29.3 and showed good basic speed with wins in the 100m (14.4sec) and 200m (28.3sec).
.
New sprint starlet Twinelle Hopeson defied the weather to put on a sparkling display to earn the club maximum points from the 100m and the 200m. She won the 100m in 13.0sec and the 200m in 26.4sec. Sheree Oliver (14.2sec) and Stefanie Braithwaite (28.5sec) both won their strings to make these events a Croydon preserve.
Despite the awful conditions, three Croydon athletes performed at national grade one level. U17 javelin thrower Richmond Baah was not far off his best with his winning throw of 51.31m, while triple jump winner Trevor Okoroafor cleared 13.75m to win by almost a metre.
U15 double sprint runner-up Ehe Obiote was 0.3sec adrift of his 200m best in 24.0sec. He was 0.1sec behind the 100m winner in 12.0 seconds. He successfully teamed up with Kariym Irving in the 80m hurdles to contribute an impressive event maximum with times of 12.2sec and 13.4sec.
Croydon's U17 high jumpers Tsidi Dagadu (1.60m) and Ryszard Buk (1.50m) both sensibly withdrew once certain of winning. Aspiring first year U17 400m runner Adam Fletcher improved to 52.7sec for a worthy second, and both U17 hurdlers Jemel Beckford, (14.7sec), and Anton Denny-Browne (15.5sec) overcame the adverse elements for good second places.
The middle distances in particular benefited from the influx with eight newcomers in the fray.
Eleven-year-old Elliott Verheary almost took the U13 1,500m by storm, leading until the home straight before finishing a creditable third in 5:06.9.
Hannah Tailleur, an U15 debutante, cut her 1,500m best by 16 seconds to take a very encouraging fourth in 5:56.81, while Gemma Dungay and Alice Schroeder were the first athletes for several years to pick up valuable points for the club in the U17 1,500m.
The relays were an unacceptable mixture of success and disqualification, featuring two disqualifications and two wins which were credited to the keen U13 boys and girls 4x400m teams.
This excellent match result moves Croydon Harriers up to sixth in the 16 Southern Premier Division. Their next match at this elevated level will be at Copthall Stadium, Hendon, on Sunday, June 4, when the opposition will be Shaftesbury Barnet, Vale of Aylesbury and Harrow.

Pride of place went to U17 triple jumper Trevor Okoroafor, who not only beat his rivals by a huge margin with his winning effort of 14.27m, but also set a new championship best performance and eclipsed the previous club record by 28cms.
Twinelle Hopeson, the 14-year-old Archbishop Tenison School sprint ace, now a Croydon Harrier, also put on a high quality display to take the U15 100/200m double in the excellent times of 12.52sec and 25.73sec.
First year U17 Daisy Collingridge ran with great confidence, controlling her 800m to win virtually from the front with a fine personal best of 2:18.2. She also took third in the high jump at 1.45m.
.
U20 George Thatcher scored a similar double, winning the 400m with a searing final surge in 50.52sec, and took 800m silver in 1:59.11, both efforts being personal bests.
Josh Howard underlined his potential with a runaway U15 400m victory in 54.02sec, plus a close up 200m bronze in 24.15sec. U17 Odette Campbell got a gold/bronze brace with her storming 300m win in 41.05sec and a 200m third in 26.16sec.
Versatile Kariym Irving took two throw medals. He won the U15 discus at 33.76m and was runner-up in the hammer with a 33.93m heave.
U15 jumper and sprinter Derek Yeboah won his speciality, the long jump at 5.66m with all his efforts over 5.19m and ran a sharp 100m for fourth in 12.68sec.
Other Croydon Harrier winners were Richmond Baah U17 javelin 52.61m, Erasmus Ntim-Dwewo U17 shot 12.93m, Claudius Ricketts U17 1500m 5:17.1, U20 hammer Keleisha Smith 35.53m and U15 shot putter Temi Ladega with his 11.76m put.
Silvers were won by sprinter James Dasaolu in the 100m U20 section in a very crisp 10.84sec. 100m hurdler Kayleigh Ferguson who showed good technical progress to achieve her 15.68sec clocking in a 1.7 m/s wind. Dan Ho ran the 400m hurdles in 62.05sec, senior 3k steeplechaser Terry Lapins, who clocked 11:23.8, and Tsidi Dagadu in the high jump (1.80m) also grabbed silvers.
Two youngsters took third place medals on their county debuts. A strong home straight surge brought Jordan Maurice his bronze in 2:20.10 and Jessica Cox showed good potential in the 75m hurdles.
