caring
Care is the ‘very Being of human life', it is the
ultimate reality of life (Martin Heidegger).
When we have a caring encounter, large or small, we
empty our soul of ‘all its own contents in order to receive the other’. (Nel
Noddings)
The
nature of care requires attentiveness on behalf of the carer, and a
willingness to receive by the cared for.
A caring relation is, in its most basic form, a
connection or encounter between two human beings. (Noddings 1992: 15)
When we care for those we encounter, we must be able
to be attentive and receive and acknowledge the way they need to be cared
for.
