fellowship and association
Historically central concerns of informal educators like youth and
community development workers.
Fellowship (the companionship of people on friendly and equal terms) was
seen both as an end of education and a means by which that aim was realized.
However, fellowship is not just a matter of feelings, 'but as a matter of right
relationships' which are institutionally based' (Tawney)
The
result has been a focus on association - creating the chance for people to join together or to undertake some
task - and upon releasing the educative power of playing one's part in
a group or association.
All of this puts a particular emphasis on the
person of the educator.
