informal learning - background

The interest in the area is part of a move in thinking from 'education' to 'learning'.

This move has tended to individualize experience and to extend accreditation. Both are socially problematic.

Policy interest in informal learning has largely been framed in policy terms by a concern to promote economic growth and to skill for employment.

We need to reframe exploration. Instead we should be asking what makes people happy?
