Introduction
The Year 2000 is an issue which no
organization, anywhere, can afford to ignore. As the inescapable deadline
approaches, every company, irrespective of it's market sector, geography or
size, must identify the impact of the date change and decide upon the steps to
take to fix it.
These are some of the problems which could POSSIBLY result
from a lack of Millennium Compliance :
- Computer systems fail to start
- Transactions rejected because the date
appears to precede the previous updating session
- Databases, archived information and reports
in error because information is incorrectly calculated
- Interest payments credited or debited
incorrectly
- Outstanding financial obligations retired
prematurely
- Telephone calls extending beyond midnight
on 31st December 1999 billed as over 52 million minutes (60 minutes x 24 hours
x 365 days x 99 years)
A basic high level approach should at least
include the following :
- Evaluation
- Analysis
- Project management
- System conversion
- Testing
- Validation
- Compliance
