In Norse mythology Ragnarok is the final destruction of the world, when the gods and the giants will slaughter one another and in the process destroy all creation. According to the Icelandic Eddas, the giants will be led by the traitor-god LOKI and will attack ASGARD, the dwelling place of ODIN and the other major divinities. Their coming will be signaled by HEIMDALL, who will sound a mighty blast on his horn. After the destruction, however, a new Earth will appear and the creative process will begin anew.
