Now, most of us have either owned or admired this brand of footwear. Worn by all ages, professions and walks of life, synonymous with every well made steel caped leather or suede high top boot, Dr. Martens have in my opinion developed into one of the worlds harder wearing essential fashion items.

In recent years, the range available has been fantastic for both sexes in a wide range of colours and styles however, Air Wair who make DM'S (as they are known in the UK) launched a unprecedented exhibition of celebrity decorated boots in support of World Aids Day 1st December 1998

Madonna, Oasis, Mick Jagger, Sir Elton John, All Saints, Beastie Boys, Janet Jackson, Nicole Kidman, Ben de Lisi and our Patsy Palmer are just a handful of prestigious artist who have taken time out of their demanding schedules in support of this years' Worlds Aids Day Project.  By decorating the boots, these artists are helping to build awareness of HIV and AIDS related illness amongst young people. Of the 30 million people world-wide now living with HIV and AIDS, at least a third are people aged between 10-24.

Fifty pairs of celebrity boots were exhibited for one day at the Dr. Martens Dept. Store in Covent Garden, London on Worlds Aids Day and the project is a joint initiative by the National AIDS Trust (NAT) and the Health Education Authority (HEA) to promote World AIDS Day in the UK.  The boots will be incorporated into a larger collection of visual imagery entitled 'artofawareness'.   The collection will be touring the UK in 1999, drawing attention to educating the public about HIV and AIDS related illnesses.
