'Live' pictures from the solar eclipse of Wednesday 11th August 1999.

'Live' in this case meant a picture every 10mins, with a delay of about 60 seconds as I uploaded the new image. Of course all timings, photos and information are wildly inaccurate, this was just a bit of fun after all!

Location:London
Max eclipse:Approx 97% at 11.20 am

Notes and observations

Fantastic weather for it here in sunny LONDON! Total sunshine... such a shame we are not on the line of totality!

The sun when half 'eaten away' gave the impression of a sunny winters day. Bright, but noticeably less intense.

The camera decided that flash was required for the 10.56 picture, an indication of the decreasing overall light levels.

At 11.07 a bird decided it was time to sing before bedtime.

11.17 Colours of buildings are flat, dull, grey and lifeless, however real darkness never came. Noticeable drop in temperature, and slight breeze.

11.26 Starts to brighten up, and as it does so mackerel clouds cover the sky.

  11.40 Much brighter again now.
