Go Back Corps and Crowds. Go to Contents

I like people, when they're not in bad company.

Something comes over people in a crowd, and often the first thing the resulting creature abandons is its morals. Companies do the same.

You remember that people used to think that you could sell yourself to the devil and gain worldly goods, power, anything they wanted? Well it was really a very simple metaphor, and one that is just as apt today as it ever was. Forget your social responsibility, lie, cheat, steal, and you WILL gain your earthy desires, you will... but at what cost? To you? To your fellow humans?

The actual 'act of selling yourself to the devil' is, quite a disturbing one, and is something which most of us, have the power and morals to never be able to do. However, Company morality is a far easier thing for the 'devil' to pervert. Capitalism encourages the strong to trample everyone in their path, and with the anonymity that merely being a single person in a large corporation gives you, it is all to easy for the company to become simply, grotesque.
