Serious Programming

I have always programmed a variety of different things, 'serious' word processors and 'silly' games.

The serious programs were more interesting to me, however, plain economics have dictated the present course of my programming. Games sell. (big time).

Once I am free of Game programming I will write some more 'heavy weight' code. However, that said, Game programming will have taught me a great deal by then. See here for more details.

My first completed Machine Code program was called CELL and ran cellular automata. The coding taught me a great deal, including the hardships and depressions involved when coding an entire package - albeit a mini-package from scratch. It also showed me that there is a large amount of work required to actually finish a piece of work off, even when you have all the major functions written, debugged and installed.

If you're interested, and have a PC, you can download it here.. Its nice to think that someone might actually use it! I look forward to hearing your bug reports! See also my Cellular Automata pages here on this site.

My only real concerns with my programming is that code should be efficient. However, it should also be an efficient use of my time, if a routine is both non-time critical and non-length critical, then I will not waste my precious time with optimising it. [Much ;)]

Once my programming becomes less of a chore and more of a labour of love again, then watch out, this page will tell of some truly 'heavyweight' code.
