The Green Party

Here, in shortened 'bitesize' pieces, is the Green Euro-manifesto.

The Single Currency

The Government should be free to set its own levels of tax, spending and borrowing. The UK should not join.

Defence

The EU should not become merely the European part of NATO; organisations such as the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe should be encouraged. States should be given the right to veto common foreign policy.

Reform of the EU

The role of the EC should be restricted, and the European Parliament should be given new powers. There should be a new treaty to define powers.

The Budget

No policy.

Home Affairs

Pan-European ID cards should not be introduced; Europol should not be given any operational role as it is unaccountable.

Enlargement

Enlargement is beneficial; but new members should have free press, independent judiciary and a commitment to environmental standards, and should hold a referendum before joining.

Fraud

Fraud should be highlighted; Green Members will challenge incompetence and waste in the EC.

Soundbite

Vote for what you believe in and send a clear message that people want a cleaner, safer, fairer world
