The Conservative Party

Here, in shortened 'bitesize' pieces, is the Conservative Euro-manifesto.

The Single Currency

The Tories will oppose entry into EMU (European Monetary Union) as a manifesto commitment during elections for the next British Parliament.

Defence

NATO should be the way forward for European defence; the idea of a single European army or other identity is opposed as it is unnecessary.

Reform of the EU

Any further diminution of the British veto is opposed. Aside from trade commitments, governments should have more freedom to adopt the policies they want to.

The Budget

The EU Budget magnitude should be reduced, and the British net contribution with it.

Home Affairs

A single European justice system will be opposed, as will a common immigration policy.

Enlargement

Enlargement of the EU will be a top priority, advancing the merits of free trade, markets, deregulation and cooperation.

Fraud

New codes of conduct should be introduced, along with an independent anti-fraud body outside the European Commission, with more powers for the European Parliament to dismiss Commissioners.

Soundbite

Britain in Europe, not run by Europe
