Scottish Shorts
A few little points, information, call it what you will, that I picked up.
- Labour - as you will have seen from the front of this section - are the biggest party in the new Parliament, but they fall nine seats short of the 65 needed to have an overall majority in the new assembly. It looks likely that Labour will seek an alliance with the Liberal Democrats, who hold 17 seats, to form a coalition government.
- The Speaker in the new Parliament - to be called the Presiding Officer - looks at this stage like being Lord Steel, a Liberal Democrat.
- The Scottish Parliament is to have the first Green member of a British parliament after Robin Harper won a seat in the Lothians under the PR top-up list.
More soon.
