Welsh Shorts
A few little points, information, call it what you will, that I picked up.
- Labour are the biggest party in the new Assembly but they fall three short of the thirty seats required for an outright majority and overall control. A coalition with the Liberal Democrats will probably be sought by Alun Michael, First Secretary-elect.
- Swings of up to 35% were enjoyed by Plaid Cymru to stop Labour getting overall control. Dafydd Wigley, their leader, was elected; Rod Richards, Tory leader, and Michael German, LibDem leader, were elected on the top-up list. Turnout was around 46%.
- The new Assembly will have a fixed budget of £8bn to spend on agriculture, economic development, education and health.
More soon.
