The Millenium Youth Games (MYG) was originally
launched in 1998, and is a key event in the UK's Millenium celebrations. It
aims to be a national programme of quality assured youth events and culminates
in a Grand Final to be held in Southampton during August 2000. The games are a
joint venture between Sport England and BAA plc, who will work in partnership
with Local Authorities across the country.
The MYG is first and foremost a locally led initiative, Districts and Boroughs
will select teams to compete in a day long County Championship. The winners
will then represent Derbyshire at the Grand Finals in Southampton. 8 core
sports have been selected for the Games of which girls football is just one.
The MYG provides clubs with a great opportunity to develop partnerships with
schools and local authorities for the long term benefit of the game. ie.
provide personnel to assist with coaching in schools
and district trials
provide training opportunities for team organisers and
coaches
provide a link between triallists and the local club
provide training and development for young referees
The age categories for the girls football are:
Under 13's - School years 7 and 8
Under 15's - School years 9 and 10
The competition will be open to players of a standard just below County level,
therefore no girls registered with the Centre of Excellence will be eligible to
play
The Derbyshire Youth Games will be held at
Mootways Stadium, Derby on Saturday 8th July 2000
The Grand finals are scheduled for the 17th - 20th August 2000 in
Southampton
