England v Portugal
The Ladies Senior squad recently had their first
get together of the new century in preparation for their Euro 2001 qualifying
game against Portugal. This was played at Barnsley FC's ground, Oakwell on
Sunday 20th February 2000. A number of local people benefited from the
scheme's free tickets and thoroughly enjoyed the game. It finished as a 2 - 0
victory to England, through goals from Sue Smith and Karen Walker.
The game also made history as being the best attended womens international in
this country when over 5000 people attended. England's next fixture is on
Tuesday 7th March 2000 at Carrow Road, Norwich against Norway. This should
prove to be a stiffer test.

Excellence Festival

The Festival
was a well attended and highly organised affair.
National Coach, Hope Powell, took a break from a training camp in North London
to attend in order to check out the talent on show.
Overall 6 midlands based Girls Centres of Excellence entered the festival in
three age groups. The team group right shows Hope with the Chesterfield Under
16 squad.
