The News Of The Foz

Long Hot & Sticky Summer 06/08/06 01:10

Some of my earlier paintings in The Brunswick, Duke St. Swansea July '06.

It's been a while since I last posted any news, largely because I've been too busy doing temping work, decorating the flat and enjoying the summer. Bournemouth during the summer has the effect of making you feel like you're on holiday every time you pop out of the office for lunch. It's incredible to see all the things they're putting on for the grockles - fireworks off the pier evey Friday night, bands in the Lower Gardens, fairground rides etc. But you don't want to know what I got up to on my hols, otherwise you'd be reading my Myspace or livejournal entries instead.

Art-wise things have been moving forward at a relatively modest pace. Long-time followers of my work (are there any or have I just made this up to sound more important?) will know that I normally don't produce much in the way of artwork during the summer months apart from the summer of '96 when I spent the entire summer in my parents' garage swearing loudly at plasticene models because they kept keeling over in the heat. Despite this I've had a few developments in the past month. I've finally after months managed to get 'Before Elvis' on to the website. 'Before Elvis' is an odd little diversion for me because I don't normally do paintings of dead rock stars but when we were moving down to Poole I decided we absolutely had to have a picture of Elvis in our toilet as a tribute to my friend and former business partner Bruce Risdon, who always has a poster of Elvis in the toilet wherever he lives.

I have also started the slow, labourious process of re-vamping the Cult of The Artist website and have even created a Myspace profile for them. There is talk of future collaborative works from The Cult but it's early days. I'm in the process of creating some art money for the Bank Of International Art Money and have produced a load of postcards of the 'Pauses' series. The postcards worked out so expensive that I make a loss on them if I sell them for anything less than about 50p but as I'm nice I might let you buy one for less if you email me and ask nicely. To cap it all off I've been invited to show my artwork online on the Saatchi Gallery's new 'Your Gallery' website which is very nice of them. The blue 'Pauses' panels in The Brunswick July '06.
My next big thing for this website is going to be to change it from being designed for screen resolutions of 800 x 600 to 1024 x 768. It seems that people are using the higher resolution settings on their monitors these days - myself included and the site just seems to go a bit shit when enlarged because the pictures look tiny and the backgrounds don't fit properly. I'm expecting the process of converting it to take a number of weekends so am saving it for when the weather is a bit nastier. I'll probably include a link to an 800 x 600 version for those who still need it as well but this probably won't include any new updates - just archiving the old stuff. If anyone has any suggestions or concerns about this move then feel free to email me on james@jameswfoster.com.
