The final phases

The clock’s running nicely in the spare room now, and is only short of the weights and dials.

For the weights, I used brass tubes and filled them with lead, which totalled 30.8lbs for the pair.  These were finished in a satin finish, and look very good next to the pendulum.  For the chapter ring, I will be using brass again, and silvering it once all the roman numerals have been engraved onto it.  This is a jolly tricky exercise, as a paper copy needs robe traces through the paper onto the dial, and the numbers scratched out on the lathe.  Pictures below are of the weights being made and the testing for the  engraving of the dials.  The first attempt at the dials is good, but not really quite deep enough.   For the final version I’ll be going a bit deeper.  I think these were about 6 thou, and I’ll probably go down to 10-12 thou on the final version.
