THE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO THE RING

HIGH FLYER

Now comes the first real challenge of the 'Ring - FLUGPLATZ! If you haven't yet had the pleasure, this is a very fast hill with a completely blind brow, which launches your car into the air! All four wheels leave the road, so it's VERY important that you have the car totally straight before you take off.

See the sign on the left? Ease off the gas a touch just before the sign, get the car straight and hold your breath. After you land, negotiate the immediate right-hander with respect, changing down a gear or two. This bend almost always catches someone out on lap 1 of an online race! Take a look at this fast n' furious replay: Flugplatz FUN

FLUGPLATZ: I hope you went to the toilet earlier :-)

Easy does it! Keep the wheels straight, and you might just survive

Land badly, and you could look like this. How embarrassing.

POINT OF REFERENCE!

After this nasty right-hander, you have a wonderful flat-out downhill bendy section, that is incredibly good fun. Remember to turn in early for each twist, and you shouldn't have to lift your foot at all.

So it goes: Flugplatz - nasty right-hander - FLAT OUT.

FLOOR IT baby, YEAH!

POINT OF REFERENCE!

Next - after a tight right-hander - you have this bridge - which is a good reminder that the next section is FAST! One of my favourite sections; it's downhill, twisty and very exciting - you may need a few "confidence lifts" off the throttle as you clip the grass verges on the way down...

This fast section ends with a great swooping steep hill that bends slightly left - difficult to brake for, as the car is turning left, so try just easing off the throttle and taking her down a gear - then take a few gentle dabs on the brakes. You will eventually end up in a picturesque little dell (AdenauerForst) - watch out for rabbits.

AdenauerForst will see you eventually taking first, with possibly the slowest corner at the 'Ring - followed by another slow right-hander. A real left-right chicane, with a blind entry!   Then it's on to Metzgesfeld - a fast gradual bend - one of those "ease off" jobs. Again, it's hard to pick where to brake as you're turning left - turn in nice and early and you can drift round this amazingly quickly!
