Glastonbury 2002 - June 27th - 30th
Thursday - 27th
10:30 - set up off from base camp.
12:30 - Bristol Asda - stock up on biscuits, etc - stuff our faces with cream cakes and coffee - go to the last decent toilet we will see for a few days.
13:15 - leave preparing for a long queue - predicting that we would not be in the site until 4pm.
14:00 - arrived! where are the queues! The fence is big, very big, and shiny.
15:00 - tent up - right at the back of the other stage on the way to the glade - enjoying our first beer of the festival reclining outside in the sun. 1 hour at glastonbury and no injuries - but what's this on the horizon lumbering towards us - some loony - completely caned - collapsing in front of us, he decides to give us some abuse - he took exception to me giving me punch on the leg - luckily his friend rescued him before we were tempted to inflict damage onto him.
15:30 - time to hit the vodka + red bull equivalents. This year's red bull equivalents were spiked silver, solstis and feelfine.
16:00 - time for a wander around the site before the onslaught. Seems much more free and easy to move around this year - less of a crowd and no mud! Additional tents this year - Experience (DJ stuff) and Leftfield (a little bit of politics with Billy Bragg)
Have a look at all the main stages - have our first beer from the beer tent (oakhill bitter - not nice) - wander up to the green fields and have a rest at the sacred place where everyone is relaxing and practising juggling. (see panoramic 1) Generally chilling out and not being at work. Alot of people with David Beckham World Cup hair styles.
Have our first go at junk food - hot dog with onions and mustard.
Toilets are not too bad but it's early yet!
Meanwhile back the tent - we have new neighbours - yes the welsh have landed. Have a brew on using the Jackal's primus.
21:30 - Croissant Neuf tent (run on solar power) - kick off with Tractor - very 70's - highlight: 'made the journey' - the Jackal (it's too 70's) goes to get Roddy.
22:30 - spaceritual.net - Nik Turner in fine form - early hawkwind classics include 'orgone accumulator', 'master of the universe', 30 minute 'shouldn't' improvise. Nik finishes the night on his own with a sax solo 'in the mood'.
01:00 - back at the tent - the Jackal and Roddy have bedded down. Lights out - but not for the welsh who seem to being going on all night. A spot of light dozing throughout the night for me. A surreal moment happens at about 6am - silence - nobody talking - no music from the stalls - complete quiet - bizzare!
Friday - 28th
08:00 - up for a wash at the cold taps - toilets still not too bad!
09:00 - have a brew - go to glade cafe for breakfast - queue for 20 minutes (not good) - bacon and mushroom roll - the Jackal has a partially raw sausage (not good for the Jackal).
10:30 - This mornings cocktail is fuzzy navel.
11:00 - Other stage - Ikara Colt - art punksters - inform us that John Entwistle had died - highlights: butcher's boy (dedicated to John Entwistle), best quote 'this is our ballad song - well the closest that we get to a ballad' - rock on! The Jackal and Roddy head off to the pyramid stage to see Alabama 3.
12:10 - Vex red - rock - highlights: can't smile, genie in a bottle (yes that one by Christina Aguilera).
13:10 - Ed Harcourt - Best performance of the day - highlights: 'hanging with the wrong crowd', 'apple of my eye' - lots of new stuff - lots of interaction with the crowd - 'do like my new piano - cos I completely f**ked my last one' not surprised at the treatment - finishes with a tribute to John Entwistle by smashing his guitar against the front of the stage.
14:20 - Cooper Temple Clause - severe tambourine onslaught - highlights: did you miss me?, who needs enemies, let's kill music.
Find the tent selling guinness - lovely but expensive. go to the pyramid stage to catch up with the Jackal and Roddy.
15:05 - Dandy Warhols - Beardy Courtney and cute Zia - highlights: be in, minnesoda, boys better, last junkie and that one of the advert that shall not be named.
16:40 - Doves - top performance - catch the sun - I certainly did I got slightly sunburnt - highlights: pounding, catch the sun, there goes the fear, words (dedicated to John Entwistle), the cedar room. The plastic spidermen next to us enjoyed it as well. Off for another wander.
18:00 - System 7 - end of the set - Steve and Miquette pumping out the vibes in the danace tent.
18:20 - Queens of the stone age - missed start of the set - Dave Grohl on the drums - lets rock - highlights: The lost art of keeping a secret, lots of new stuff.
19:20 - back to the tent for a break - chicken and chips - listen to the Mercury Rev whilst dozing in the tent - highlight: dark is rising.
21:15 - Spiritualized - Jason (silver trousers) Spaceman stands sidewides to the band - I suppose he likes to keep an eye on them - highlights: electricity, come together.
10:40 - pop head into dance tent - turntable tag team - Fatboy slim, Darren Emerson and Timo Maas - spinning some disks.
11:00 - Off to the glade - Eat Static - top techno - hightlights: contact, hybrid, crash and burn - when some chap collapsed in the crowd behind me the ambulance was quickly on hand.
Took a break to get some food - other stage - Garbage - highlights: stupid girl, cherry lips. Nice fireworks display happening at the same time.
Back to Eat Static finish on 'mondo a gogo'.
12:30 - back to the tent. Yet another spot of light dozing throughout the night. Again another surreal moment at 6am when all is quiet!
Saturday - 29th
09:30 - up for a wash at the cold taps - getting a bit swampy now.
10:00 - breakfast - bacon roll & coffee - not the glade.
11:00 - wander a round stalls - as it is sunny attempt to buy another crappy hat. Dreadzone playing in the background on the pyramid stage - litte england
13:00 - Parkinsons - noisemongers!
14:10 - Pyramid Stage - Jools Holland and his band - gets the crowd boogying - joined by Sam Brown (with a black eye?).

During our wander we hit upon darren emerson at radio one stage for a kicking DJ set - Roddy joins us and we partake of the guiness.
21:25 - Pyramid stage start of the Charlatans - on fine form - highlight: north country boy - head off to the acoustic tent.
21:45 - Robert Plant - get there 15 minutes early - the field outside the tent is jam-packed - somehow I got into the overcrowded tent - after 20 minutes wait I had a mild attack of claustrophobia and decided to leave. Decide to have wander instead through some of the other fields (circus, jazz world, glade).
Jazz world - Kosheen - strange dress - highlights: Catch, Hide u. Glade - Aphex Twin? - Alot of MC Hammer going on 'can't touch this'.
23:10 - Avalon Stage - Ozric Tenticles - highlights: dissolution, kick muck, the throbbe. Alas they were halted by the time restrictions much to the crowds disappointment.
13:00 - back to the tent where the Jackal and Roddy were already tucked up for the night.
Some time in the night some joker decided to fall on our tent - the rodmeister soon sorted him out ejecting him off in a physical fashion.
Sunday - 30th
