Church Flat

As part of its role of Mission in the City Centre, Crown Terrace Methodist Church has a flat suitable for students or a young family adjacent to its Church premises in Crown Terrace in the centre of Aberdeen. The first floor flat has three bedrooms, lounge, kitchen, bathroom. At the moment there is one vacancy and we are willing to consider applications from Christian people of any denomination. Should you be interested, or need further details please contact Mr Nigel Herbert.

Organisations

Sunday School & Crèche

The Sunday School has groups catering for those between 5 and 17. It leaves the morning service after the 2nd hymn. Now and again there are family services which include participation from the children, and sometimes the Senior Sunday School will lead the whole service. The highlight of the year for the Senior Sunday School is the annual weekend away, which this year will return to Monymusk. The Sunday School Superintendant is Mrs Anne Kelley, and Mrs Anne Hubbuck runs the crèche for pre-school children.

Babies & Toddlers

This group meets weekly, every Monday from 10am until noon, providing an opportunity for toddlers to play with each other and for mums and dads to meet each other and make friends as they supervise. The cost is 50p per family. For further information,
e-mail Mrs Anne Kelley. or call Mrs Anne Hubbuck on (01224) 588738.

House Groups

There is now a selection of house groups, each meeting at a different time of the week to make it easy to find one which suits you. The groups comprise:
Tuesday Evening House Group
This group (formerly known as the Young Adults but now attended by people of all ages) attracts members of several congregations and meets fortnightly in members' homes for a Bible study and prayer or sometimes a talk by a guest speaker. There are also regular social evenings. The leader is
Mrs Sarah Sim whom you should contact to find details of the venue for the next meeting.
Monday Evening House Group
This is Barbara Cresswell & Bob Kelley's group and it meets at 8pm in members' homes every second Monday.
Wednesday Lunchtime Bible Study/Fellowship
This group, which used to meet every week in the OAK Cafe, has been put on hold until we find a more permenant venue for the cafe. Details can still be had from Mrs Pauline Ellingworth.

Prayer Group

The Friday prayer group has re-convened and now meets at 12:30 in St. Mark's Church to enable pray-ers to have lunch and / or help at the OAK cafe. The main reason for starting the meeting was the need to pray for revival, both for our congregation and in Aberdeen as a whole. Prayers are also said for individuals, and requests for prayer are always welcomed and remembered at the meeting. If you would like us to pray for a person or situation please use the
Feedback page, giving as much, or as little, detail as you want. The prayer co-ordinator is Mrs Sarah Sim.

Students

Crown Terrace is committed to welcoming students and making itself relevent to their needs. Rather than having special groups and meetings purely for students, we encourage them to become part of the life of the church and its various groups. This works well. During term time a hospitality rota exists which provides meals for student in members' homes every Sunday. If you are a student and are interested in finding out about worshipping at Crown Terrace, please
e-mail Rev. David Collinson

Women's Fellowship

This is a lively and friendly group which meets once a month in members' homes for a variety of activities including prayer, Bible reading and Fellowship (with a capital F!). It meets monthly on Thursdays at 10am making it ideal for house-wives and retired ladies. There is a varied programme and topics for discussion or visiting speakers are arranged by the hostess for the morning. We usually find no difficulty in filling at least a couple of hours. All are welcome to join this friendly group when and if they can - we are delighted to see new members. Meetings are announced in the Methodist notice sheet - for details of time, place and subject, please
e-mail Mrs Katherine Dalton.

Sisterhood

The sisterhood meet during the day from 2-4pm on the first Tuesday of each month for tea/coffee. Each meeting starts with a reading and a prayer. We have tea and home bakes and while we chat our hands are busy knitting blankets which we give to various nuring homes. The sisterhood is currently enjoying a summer break and will resume in September. Further information from Mrs Gloria Benson, who can be seen at church on Sundays.

Weekend Away

Our Church weekend away is almost an annual event which everyone looks forward to. For three years, this has been at Bonskeid House in Perthshire (see photo). We have booked Bonskeid for the weekend of November 10-12, 2000, and hope that many people of all ages will want to come along. Activities will be as diverse as the people there and will include everything from banner-making to abseiling! For more details, email Mrs Seonaid Primrose

Kinnoull Retreat

The spring of 2000 saw Crown Terrace's first weekend retreat to the lovely Kinnoull Centre in Perth. While our Bonskeid weekend always features Bible studies and times of prayer and praise, the aim of the Kinnoull Retreat was to devote much more time to these things, in a peaceful, contemplative atmosphere. The weekend was a great success and we hope to run a similar retreat in March 2001.

Alpha

We hope to run a further Alpha Course in the spring of 2001, to coincide with the screening of an important TV series about Alpha. Alpha is designed to be a meeting to which anyone can come to explore Christianity. It is a series of around 14 weekly meetings. Each starts with a meal for a relaxed atmosphere. Each evening a talk focuses on an important aspect of the faith and is followed by a time for chat in small groups where difficult questions can be asked and discussed openly. The aim is to make the meetings as informal, friendly and easy-to-follow as possible. A spin-off from a previous Crown Terrace Alpha course is...

Faith Made Easy?

This started as a course of six meetings in early 2000. Such was its popularity that a new course started in late October 2000. The original aim was to provide basic but thought-provoking Bible Study for those who became interested in Christianity through Alpha, though many other people would find it helpful and enjoyable. A meal is provided and anyone would be made welcome. For further details e-mail Mrs Gloria Milne

Sunday at Ten

Each Sunday three groups meet at the Church at 10 am., finishing in time for coffee before the morning service. They are:

The Bible Study Group

This informal meeting, made up of a diverse section of our congregation, looks at the huge variety of issues raised in Scripture. It aims to show how even familiar passages always have something new to say to us and how group discussion can enhance our understanding of the faith. Members are given the opportunity to lead a discussion. The leader is Mrs Yvonne Fotheringham. At the moment the group is looking at the Apostles' Creed.

Discussion Group

Each week the discussion group looks at a topical social issue, and tries to make sense of it from a Christian viewpoint by applying Bible teaching. The leader is Dr Michael Dyer

Choir

Mrs Daphne Cowking is the choirmistress of this small but talented group. New members are always being sought, particularly men, even if only to give it a try or just for a preview of the hymns for the service. The choir uses this time to practice the hymns for the morning service, meaning anyone at the service should manage to make the rehearsal.
