Egypt’s flag is based on the Pan-Arab colors, and is similar to the flags of many other Arab countries. The emblem in the center is the Hawk of Saladin, which also appears in Egypt’s arms. It was added to the flag in 1984.

The country has a maximum length from north to south of about 1085 km (about 675 mi) and a maximum width, near the southern border, of about 1255 km (about 780 mi). 

It has a total area of about 1,001,450 sq km (about 386,662 sq mi). 

Cairo is the capital and largest city.
