Before we go any further, for those unfamiliar with the word PATTER I should give a brief definition.
PATTER:- A person's Line in conversation. This can mean ordinary chatting. It can also mean talk intended to amuse or impress as in 'He has some good patter', or any kind of insider's language, as in 'you will get no where if you dont know the patter'. So basically for the sake of these pages the following Patter are Scottish slang words.
AM UR:-I am. Usually used in contradiction, for example. "you are not going...." would be replied with "AM UR so".
AWFY:-Awful - as in "It was awfy"
BAHOOKIE:-A friendly word for backside, bum, butt. "Move your Bahookie so I can sit down".
BAMPOT OR BAMSTICK:-Idiot, fool or someone considered as a nutcase. Sometimes shortened to 'bam'. "That man is a bampot."
BEVVY:-'THE' bevvy is the drink, alcahol, booze. 'A' bevvy is a drinking session. To be 'ON THE' bevvy is drinking to excess. 'TO' bevvy is to drink. 'TO BE' bevvied is to be drunk.
CANNY:-I can not. "I canny do it."
CHIN:-To accost someone to complain. "I went to the head waiter to chin him."
DROOTH:-Thirst. "I have a terrible drooth today."
DINGER:-{Pronounced to rhyme with ringer}. 'To go your dinger' means to be angry, to be in a rage.
EEJIT:-Idiot. "That boy is an eejit."
EMDY:-Anybody. "Emdy else coming to the park?"
