How many software packages for solicitors are truly tailored to the needs of the solicitor rather than the salesman or the programmer? The answer is all too few. This is particularly true for criminal lawyers, traditionally one of the lest well paid areas of legal work. Such software packages as there are tend to be expensive and require the solicitor to work the way the software wants them to work. It should be the other way round.
With this in mind I have developed two packages for criminal solicitors. CrimeFile is designed for use on the office PC or network. It is designed as far as possible to work with your existing office systems. CrimeFile is now available for Windows95 & NT and will handle the latest legal aid forms (CLAIM7 and CLAIM8).
The Advocate is a smaller system for use on the Psion 3a/3c and 5 personal organisers. It has legal aid calculators for police station claims, Green Form, Magistrates' and Crown Court and other categories of work.
Both programs are priced not to break the bank! Use the links above or below to explore the program features in more detail. You can even download a trial version of The Advocate .
I graduated with II.i honours degree in physics from Salford university in 1977. I passed my Part II Law Society exams in 1979 with second class honours and a distinction in commercial law. I qualified in 1981. I am now the partner in charge of the Gt. Yarmouth office of Norton Peskett where I specialise in criminal, licensing and mental health tribunal work. I am a member of the Law Society's Mental Health Tribunal panel and a member of the Criminal Law Solicitors Association. I am also a member of the duty solicitor schemes in the town.
I have written the two programs for the criminal practitioner. CrimeFile for Windows is written in the Visual Objects database language. It is sold by Temple Lectures Ltd. The Advocate is a similar program available for the Psion Series 3a/c and most recently the Series 5 personal organiser.
