almost certainly commissioned by Norton Priory originally painted--St.Christopher's robe was bright red and his hair dark grey. important locally for travellers using the ferry to cross the River Mersey between Runcorn and Widnes owned by the Brooke family from 1545 to 1964, who made Norton their home after purchasing it from King Henry VIII after the Dissolution of the Monasteries given by Sir Richard Brooke Bart. to Liverpool Museum in 1964 for safe keeping returned to Norton Priory Museum for display to visitors 1981
